The war is only unpopular in the sense that a lot of people think Putin is waging it too cautiously. That is Prigozhin's biggest complaint and Putin's biggest dilemma. Fortunately or unfortunately, the hardliners in both Russia and the West are pushing him toward more aggressive action.

They tried to take Kiev and got their heads handed to them. They are not "cautious" by choice.

"Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth." --Mike Tyson
They didn't send a force that was capable of holding Kiev in any event. Putin evidently thought someone in the West would be willing to negotiate. When that didn't happen, he escalated only as much as necessary.

As much as necessary to lose hundreds or thousands of men, including quite a few general officers, a bunch of armor, decimate moral, and embarrass his military. His plan was remarkably well executed if viewed with those goals in mind.
His goal is to take the Donbas, which he essentially has. Neither he nor anyone else wants Russian troops on the Polish border...but a few more brilliant decisions by NATO just might accomplish it.

Then he would get his butt kicked in a way that even you couldn't deny.
Not sure by whom. If Biden is waiting for an opportune moment to strike, that wouldn't be it.
Poland has been waiting 80 years. If Putin wants to be further disgraced, then he can take your advice and park part of what is left of his military next to Poland.
I can't believe Poland would attack anyone just for getting too close. Aren't they one of the good guys...you know, part of the "rules-based" international order?

The outcome would be undesirable and possibly catastrophic for Putin and his supporters. That is the point even if you missed it.
Even the current NATO leadership isn't crazy enough to attack Russia deliberately. If that happens, it will be because we blundered into it the old fashioned way.

Correct.

Gulf of Tonkin is just one example .

The point is your boy, Putin, is not going to roll any part of what is left of his military near Poland's borders. The consequences to him would be too severe.
He doesn't have anything to spare now to do that. And if he stays in Ukraine long enough, he won't have anything left to do so for a decade. Russian casualty rate is ranging between 1-2 divisions a month, with no end in sight, and they will not in our lifetime be able to replace all the lost equipment.

That is the point of the war, from the Nato perspective. Bleed Russia down so far on men and materiel that they they will be a shell of their former selves for decades. Even if the dream of empire doesn't die, it will simply not be attainable for lack of resources.

Sweden's application for membership in NATO moving forward and will likely be granted.

Sam: More evidence of Glorious Leader Putin's brilliant strategy for Special Military Operation to keep NATO from expanding near Beautiful Borders of Mother Russia.

Yeah, expanding NATO is one thing I'm sure we never would have thought of.

Putin probably invited him to a big group dinner, talked about baseball, and then with the bat.

It has been reported that the Wagner mercenaries have been bought out by the Ukranians and they have changed sides. Supposedly the Wagner soldiers are headed to Moscow. I think Putin will focus on them, vaporize them, and then get back to killing Ukranians.

What dies RD2 know about Wagner? He can't even get the endorsement of his local Seguin papers!!!! The folks closest to him know a fool when they see one.
