I dont believe either has our countries best interest as a goal. Both are party shills along with those who vote for them

So if one's a conservative, vote for someone who doesn't have a chance in hell of winning so the greater of the evils gets elected.

Make sense only in the land of make believe you live in.

I hear the same posters over and over claim America is rolling downhill like a snowball heading to hell. Yet you demand maintaining the status quo. Theres a quote somewhere about a person that repeats the same action over and over again and expects a different outcome.

I don't support maintaining the status quo. I want Biden and his disastrous policies gone.

The irony is it's you who will vote in a way to maintain the status quo. It's you who will vote in a way to get Biden re-elected.
The point is that the GOP is part of the status quo. We're not on this path just because of one party.

The disaster that is the Biden Administration is not the fault of the Republican Party. It is a result of Republicans willing to allow the corruption to continue. The Republicans have no resolve or killer instinct. The Democrats have tasted power and are unwilling to let it go. Right now, I am betting on Democrat corruption to crush Republican weakness. The Republican Party has NO intestinal fortitude. None. They are all empty suits.

In all fairness, I do not believe Trump a criminal in the sense we are talking about Biden as a criminal.

There are no money deals with Trump out there like Biden impacting National Policy. Trump is being accused of valuation of property in Westchester (I am sure he is not the only one), taking advantage of redevelopment tax breaks (legitimate uses he is getting lambasted over) or shamelessly promoting/using his hotels (that is who he is) all skirt the law, but not in the "crime famliy" way we are talking about with Biden.

Biden and Hunter are making deals impacting policy with foreign nationals. Biden is using his family to launder money and give heads up on future National policy. In my opinion. that is much worse than the Trump stuff.

I don't view Trump as a criminal, narcissist, sloppy, and needs to stay on TV, yes. Criminal, no.

It is not fraud! For a group that loves to play minutia, exact word, logical fallacy games for every post they don't like, they sure play it loose and wild with the term fraud! There was no fraud that threw the 2020 election, that is why ALL Trump's lawsuits failed.

Now, if you want to talk about State's changing voting rules against their Statutes? You may have a point, which is what Barr said. Bottomline is the votes that were cast were real votes, whether they should be included based on the voting rules is another argument. But, it was not a case of fraudulant votes, in this case the legal definition matters.

I never said anything of the sort. You might want to take a little closer look at who you are responding to. It was another poster who accused you of sleeping with prostitutes.

I have no idea whether your girlfriends are paid for. What I do know is you've bragged on this board about going to other countries and hooking up with women half your age, even taking a shot at me at one point for having an age appropriate wife. Your "girlfriends" as you've called them. Those were your words not mine. And somehow you believe traipsing around the world away from kids and grandkids and sleeping with women half your age is a "living well," despite claiming to be a Bible-believing Christian. I would respectfully submit that God disagrees with you.

It's your life and you can engage in despicable and sinful behavior if you want. But if you truly believe that kind of life is a "good" one, as I said - that's really sad. That is not finishing well.

Trump is a result of preachers taking over the republican party? That's a new one.

I think the more accurate answer is Trump appealed to a populist element of society that was becoming increasingly disenfranchised with Democrats. Namely, blue-collar workers in the rust belt. That is why Trump won in 2016 and lost in 2020.

You might be able to make the case that Shrub was the result of evangelical Christians. But I even think that would be a tough argument.

Goldwater was conservative on fiscal issues and didnt care much about social issues. The idea that his brand of conservatism would have been good, for the country is certainly not a fact supported by any evidence. As we are seeing woke social policy after woke, social policy, be passed by the states, it stands to reason that without some pushback, our society would be much worse off now than it is.

The controlling faction of the GOP is too far right. And the Conservative Leaders from the past if around today would not be able to meet their criteria for "non-RINO". Let's look at Reagan.

1 Voted for FDR 4 times and was fan of New Deal
2 Firm supporter of NATO and our involvement
3 Defense Spending - SDI, need I say more?
4 Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 - Amnesty, he actually did it.
5 Gun Control - Reagan was for gun control
6 Gay Rights - He was for gay rights
7 Raised taxes 3 times and expanded Earned Income Tax Credit
8 Saved SS
9 Expanded the Federal Govt and its power
10 Invaded Grenada
11 Gave weapons to Iraq and Afghanistan

So, if a RINO is someone that talks conservative, as defined by whoever is judging, and does not follow through doesn't Reagan fit?

Of course, I like Reagan's Conservatism, it was a mix of free market, freedom and realism to govern.

The point is that the GOP is part of the status quo. We're not on this path just because of one party.

If people on both sides continue to hold their nose and vote for "PoS" .... well here we are..

What's your issue with DeSantis?

If I could snap my fingers and form the first successful third party in more than 100 years, I'd do it. But the bottom line is that position simply isn't realistic. It's make believe.

So if you are an actual conservative - meaning conservative policies actually mean something to you - you vote for the best conservative candidate in the primaries, and hope and pray he wins. But if he or she doesn't win, I suppose you can either piss your vote away by voting for a candidate who doesn't have a chance in hell of winning, in which case you get an incompetent and dangerous POS like Biden, or you can be pragmatic and vote for the candidate who will do the least amount of damage and most identities with the polices you find important.

Look, I understand you just don't give a **** anymore and are mailing it in. But some of us feel pretty strongly regarding the world our kids will inherit. Conservative policies matter to some of us. So I understand your inability to be pragmatic.

My hero, Barry Goldwater, predicted where we are today nearly five decades ago.

Quote:

"Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they're sure trying to do so, it's going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise. I know, I've tried to deal with them."

Barry Goldwater

Barry Goldwater would be a RINO under today's definitions. Look at his stances accordin to his Grand Daughter in this article.

Barry Goldwater and Today's GOP (newsweek.com)

I have been saying this all along, the positions of the GOP Conservative side is not the Conservativism of Reagan, Goldwater, Eisenhower and Bush. All of thier positions and actions would be defined as RINOs.

Hell, Trumps actually policies would qualify as RINO.

So the GOP has gone too far right, but all of the candidates it elected are RINOs. Interesting.

I agree with you on Goldwater. He was not a Christian or a conservative. When it comes to social issues, he could've cared less. Reagan, on the other hand, his policies were both fiscally and socially conservative. Was he as far right as DeSantis? Probably not, but to suggest he was a RINO truly is revisionist history.

I'm still waiting for you to name a republican candidate, who ran is a moderate in one a general election.

1) Trump was a registered Democrat for years before his 2016 run.
2) I think you confuse NATO support with asking NATO to pay more for their defense. When one country is providing 95% of the funding for NATO, it is anti-NATO to ask the other countries to pay more?
3) Spending money on defense is now anti-conservative? Stop the press!
4) The Immigration Reform and Control Act was an act that shared large bi-partisan support. Unfortunately, its authors did not foresee some of the complications of the act, which is why in later years Reagan came out and said if he knew now what he knew then, he wouldn't have signed it.
5) To the contrary, Reagan ran on his staunch support for the 2nd Amendment. Now, after he left office, he did support the Brady Bill, which called for background checks and was named after the dude who saved his life.
6) What gay rights did he support? Was he more pro-gay than Trump? Nope.
7) So, a little bit of revisionist history here. Reagan actually cut taxes when he came into office in 1981. Congress undid that by raising taxes in the following years. While Reagan signed those bills, he came out later and said he regretted having done so. But again, we were living in different times. At that time, taxes were 70% on the most wealthy.
8) Um.... https://www.politico.com/news/2023/03/01/trump-gop-medicare-social-security-00084845
9) If you recall, Reagan had 8 years of Democrat rule in Congress. Hard to pin that all on him.
10) While true, he also ran on a policy of pulling troops out of other countries, and walking softly while carrying a big stick. See the Lebanon withdrawal. Reagan was a just war advocate.
11) Do you think our supply of weapons to other countries stopped under Trump?

Again, it's hard to compare Reagan to Trump because the times have changed, but the idea that he was some RINO is revisionist history at best.
