Fantastic movie. I'd suggest you read the book first though, it will help you follow along.

My dad's cousin was one of the individuals plucked from civilian life and assigned as researcher in the byzantine structure that was the Manhattan Project.

Two men in suits showed up during a chemistry class where he was an honors student. They took him into the hallway where he was told there was a car waiting outside and that he was not to reenter the classroom, go to his dorm room or contact any friends or family.

He had no idea what he had been a part of until after the war.

I saw it and thought it was deep and involved. As a history buff I knew some things about Oppenheimer but learned quite a bit more (assuming the movie was reasonably accurate). Thought it did a good job of dramatically presenting the paradox of developing and using the worst mass destruction weapons mankind has ever seen to finally end the most catastrophic war the world has ever seen (at least to date) and it's ongoing horrific threat to the world that continues.

And for those that might not know it's a full 3 hours long, so be prepared to be at the theatre for a good while.

Our government is still a bit like that. I had a friend who joined the Air Force, quickly moved up to E-6, worked on a lot of planes that officially don't exist. I met him in 1991 at his home in Austin, where he had two armed marines with him who checked my ID against a list before I could even say hi. He said those guys went everywhere he went, and as a result he had zero social life for some time.

I saw what he meant, as the restaurant we went to had to be pre-screened, we could only sit in certain areas, and those 2 marines were always within arms length of Virgil (my buddy), even when he went to the bathroom.

I can only imagine what kind of security exists for anyone working on a project with Manhattan-type significance.
That which does not kill me, will try again and get nastier

I was very interested in seeing it. Heard there were a lot of sex scenes. For such a movie, those would seem to be mostly gratuitous.

There are three sex scenes that do nothing for the plot. Plus, the boobs are merely average. At least there was no dong.

Agreed. They could've depicted that Oppenheimer indulged in affairs without those scenes and it wouldn't have diminished the movie at all.

Just be glad they did not make him a trainey or have an affair with a trainey.

Fantastic movie. Even though it shockingly depicted two adults engaging in………….the act of sexual intercourse. On the bright side I don't remember any dancing scenes.
