Gaetz Says He Will Move to Oust McCarthy for Working With Democrats

Representative Matt Gaetz, the far-right Republican from Florida, said on Sunday that he would move this week to oust Speaker Kevin McCarthy from his leadership post, promising to follow through on weeks of threats to try removing him for working with Democrats to keep the government funded.

Mr. Gaetz's announcement came the day after Mr. McCarthy, in a stunning reversal, steered around Republican opposition to a stopgap spending plan and turned to Democrats to help him push legislation through the House to avert a shutdown. Mr. McCarthy, a California Republican, said he knew he was putting his speakership at risk by doing so, and dared his detractors to make a move against him.
In an interview on CNN's "State of the Union" on Sunday, Mr. Gaetz, Mr. McCarthy's main tormentor, said he would do just that. He said he would soon bring up a measure called a "motion to vacate," which prompts a snap vote on whether to keep the speaker in his post.
"I think we need to rip off the Band-Aid," Mr. Gaetz said. "I think we need to move on with new leadership that can be trustworthy."

Though most House Republicans still support keeping Mr. McCarthy on as speaker, Mr. Gaetz's plans pose an existential threat to his tenure because of the slim majority the G.O.P. holds in the chamber. If Democrats were to vote against Mr. McCarthy as is almost always the case when a speaker of the opposing party is being elected Mr. Gaetz would need only a handful of Republicans to join the opposition to remove him from the post, which requires a simple majority vote.

Which will happen first? Gates move to oust McCarthy or Republicans move to expel Gaetz for ethics violations?

Me? I think Gaetz will overplay his hand and be gone.

The Republicans need to focus on getting a complete budget in place before the 45 days are up, and the temp budget expires. The in fighting must stop.

I believe that Trump contributes to the infighting by his encouragement to shut down the government. He is tearing the Republican Party to pieces.

In all truth the Republican party exists to serve the needs/desires of its Donor base...not its voter base.

They serve big business/the wealthy and not the average conservative White guy in Lufkin making $55K a year.

Its why the Republican party will never actual stop mass 3rd world immigration...because the donor base is enriched by bringing in massive numbers of semi-slave labor from the rest of the 3rd world.

So vast numbers of Republican voters want to stop the illegal immigration completely....and cut legal immigration down to more reasonable numbers...but it never happens.

This is just one of many major issues that the Donor base vs the Voter base defines the GOP...and the Donor base always wins out among GOP leadership in Congress.

In a two party system? Oh yes both do...that is the main problem.

All parties pander to their Donors....but at least some parties have less of a gap between Donor and Voter

In a multi-party systems (say like in Europe or Israel) where there are many parties in government and those parties can live on smaller $ donors then those donors tend to be their actual voters.

The gap between donor and regular voter is far less.

For instance I imagine that the United Torah Judaism party represents its voters in Israel better than the Republican party represents Christian conservatives in the USA

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Torah_Judaism

And that the Die Grnen party in German (The Greens) represents is voters in Germany better than the Democrats represent the interests of leftists and environmentalist in the USA.

Eli Crane Blasts GOP Leadership for Siding with Democrats

[State of the Union: "Republicans had a chance to deal a massive blow to the status quo and failed," Rep. Eli Crane tells The American Conservative.

Last night, Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida filed a motion to vacate the chair against House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, hot on the heels of the Speaker striking a deal with Democrats to keep the government open until November 17.

"I have enough Republicans where at this point next week, one of two things will happen: Kevin McCarthy won't be the speaker of the House or he'll be the speaker of the House working at the pleasure of the Democrats," Gaetz told members of the media after filing the motion. One of Gaetz's allies in the effort to oust McCarthy is freshman Rep. Eli Crane of Arizona. When Gaetz previously announced a motion to vacate was incoming, Crane quote tweeted the announcement and said "Let's roll!"

The American Conservative reached out to Crane to ask his thought about the continuing resolution passed under McCarthy's leadership. "The passage of yet another CR is a sad reminder that the Uniparty will always circle the wagons at the expense of We the People," Crane says via email...]
