Trump is just trying to tell our parasitic NATO allies to pay their fair share. That's all. We are paying $Billions to protect them when it should be the other way around. The whole world is on frickin' welfare from the United States. Not sure how long the American taxpayer can continue to bear this burden, regardless who is our next President.

I understand Trump's point.

But it is still an unbelievably stupid thing to say.

The point was spot on, the delivery was Trump being Trump; an embarrassment to listen to as he makes speeches.

Do the minions even know what "pay" means? The delinquency was the requirement that member nations spend a minimum of 2% of their GDP on defense. It's not like an unpaid NATO bill we covered for others.

Interestingly, the NY Times asked the same question just a week ago. Trump asks it and it national news and shame while the liberal media ignore that the NYT asked the same thing before orange man bad.

Beginning to believe Trump really doesn't want to be president.

But rather just enjoys entertaining live crowds of admirers while basking in their adoration.

Your overall point is a good one. There have been bipartisan complaints about this for decades. But this article pre-dates the pertinent time period. In 2014, NATO members informally agreed "to aim" to spend 2% of their GDP on defense. I believe it at the time only 3 countries did that - U.S., Poland, and one other. There still are countries who have not hit 2%, but all or virtually all have increased their budgets significantly, and I believe the number hitting 2% has quadrupled.

Again, overall point is legit. But NATO member have been steadily moving that way. And it was clear at the time, that it would take a decade or more for most countries to get there, if ever. Spain, Portugal, and Norway, for example, are never going to spend the 2%.

Germany is the most disappointing at first glance; however, they have significantly increased.

In addition, the 2% is all about individual country spending on their own defense. NATO countries obviously spend significant $ on actual NATO missions and other efforts, and most non-U.S. NATO have paid more than their fair share.

Encouraging Russia to do whatever the hell it wants to our allies is stupid just like most the people here still supporting this clown.

The new losers of our society are "conservatives" that had everything handed to them and have no idea the work it takes to build something with other people.

It's amazing to me that no American POTUS before Trump has ever had the nads to call out Europe for depending on and expecting the USA to bear the vast majority of the burden for their defense as if they're still reeling from and recovering from the devastation of WW II which ended almost 79 years ago. And for that matter the Cold War with the old Soviet Union ended almost 34 years ago as well. Yes, Russia is obviously still a potential threat (especially given dementia Joe's obvious projection of weakness and stupidity on the international stage), but it's still absurd for Europe to expect and demand that USA taxpayers bear the brunt of the burden to protect them.

Trump's point is spot on.

"not even taking into account Melania barely appearing with him anymore"

That's precisely why he said it. You can tell that Trump (or someone working for him) is well aware of his own vulnerabilities, because he consistently projects them onto his opponents. His goal is to get people to throw up their hands and just say "both sides", that's how he slightly evens the playing field in terms of perception.

Another moron. Europe contributing to NATO is a problem. Not having NATO is a much larger problem. Trump is a buffoon that attracts other weak minded people that think diplomacy is not needed. There are ways to get NATO to pay and encouraging a crowd full of white trash that Russia should do whatever the hell it wants is not constructive.

im sure, but whilst we dont know whats going on with Melania not being at Trumps side, we know that Haleys Husband is deployed in the Military, i mean, its easily verifiable, i find it hard to believe that noone working for Trump didnt do a little bit of fact checking to see why he wasnt there and say to him "wait a minute, saying this might not be a wonderful idea"

Another abject moron complaining about mean tweets while the world burns. Trump's diplomatic abilities are far superior to "a minor Russian incursion into Ukraine would see a limited response from the US" Joe Biden's. Frothing at the mouth radical dumb****s like Ronny here would never admit the truth, though. They just go on embarrassingly thinking that finding a new mean tweet will somehow stop people from seeing what their democrat dementia patient votes have done to this country in just 3 short years.
