Went to a Baylor Theatre production with the wife last night. Good show!

In the program, below the cast list is this lovely load of crap...

BAYLOR UNIVERSITY LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMNT
We respectfully acknowledge that Baylor University in Waco and its original campus in Independence are on the land and territories originally occupied by indigenous peoples including the Waco and Tawakoni of the Wichita and Affiliated Tribes, the Tonkawa, the Comanche, Karankawa, and Lipan Apache. These Indigenous peoples were dispossessed of and removed from their lands over centuries by European colonization and American expansionism. In recognition that these Native Nations are the original stewards of Baylor's campus locations, the University strives to build sustainable relationships with sovereign Native Nations and Indigenous communities through education offerings, partnerships and community service.

Boy, this makes me so proud!

The whole idea of "land acknowledgements" are ridiculous and frankly insulting.

But its just a cherry on top that Baylor puts the Comanche and Apache in there....two of the most ruthless warrior tribes to ever reign in North America.

They raided, murdered, raped, stole horses and goods, and tortured or killed anyone who fell into their hands...and in some cases drove other tribes to extinction or near extinction...and certainly drove them off their land.

Comanche and Apache raids into Mexico in the 1700s-1800s were the stuff of nightmares. 200+ years of horror

[The Apache conducted raids into Mexico for centuries, stealing livestock and other property, and capturing women and children]

Anyone who wants thinks these tribes were peaceful nature worshipers living in harmony with the land needs to read Empire of the Summer Moon

It's merely lip service & window dressing. They don't mean it literally.

Wait until the American Indians start demanding reparations!

You beat me to it.

Laughing to myself thinking what a rapid 'education' the woke crowd would immediately receive at the hands of the Comanches and Apaches of the 1800's.

It's incredible to me how so many supposedly educated people pick and choose what they care to know about.

I personally would not have a problem paying Native American Indians some sort of "reparations". They are the ONLY group deserving of $$$$ because we did screw them over. All other ethnic groups have profited by their coming to America. Slave or non-slave.

But only if all African Americans, Czech Americans, German Americans, Irish Americans pitch in and cut checks to Indian tribes still around.

By the way……why are American Indians not demanding their "fair share"? Are they looting, stealing, beating and burning America down?

They already get paychecks. I used to work with a gal who was 1/2 Choctaw and she got a monthly check and her daughters got to go to college free.

There are zero ethnic groups that are not the descendants of oppressed people.

There are zero ethnic groups that are not the descendants of oppressors.

Balancing the scales is impossible.

Drawing a line at some point in history and only balancing wrongs after that point is morally indefensible.

Stop current and future oppression and have society move along. Anything else is simply a money grab.

Baylor could give the land back. Every day that they don't, they are backing the idea that the winner makes the rules.

Lip service to give the warm and comfy feels is all it is. I'm also sure somewhere it helps with our national ranking or federal funding.

Bet somebody else was there before any of the tribes they named. Kinda arbitrary to draw the line at the point white folks showed up.

Not to mention what many of those tribes were doing to each other fighting over land, as mentioned above...

Empire of the Summer Moon is a great read.

I don't go out of my way to apologize but there isn't any question what we did to the natives was absolutely evil.

They were much more evil and savage than Europeans have been for a long time.

Natives had been slaughtering each other and stealing land for centuries before Europeans showed up. The vast majority of them were baby killing savages.

The modern idea that they were peace-loving, vegan environmentalists is total BS.

They killed and conquered for the same things (land, resources, nationalism) as has every society across the globe in history.

Disingenuous. If Baylor (or similar thinking groups) really feel this way, they should give the land back. If not, they should shut the hell up.

Would you rather they start paying reparations? It is just a way to keep students happy, and not be a headline in the news for all the wrong reasons. You can't always go against the flow, sometimes you give in just a bit, with a plaque here, a paragraph in a pamphlet there.
