This thread took a turn and it's my fault for not being clearer. I *think* this was about individual debt when I did the OP. People owed more because they couldn't afford as much and went into debt under Biden. Bidenomics was a failure for people. Progressives will only make the rich richer and the poor more subservient.

I'm hopeful that trend is reversed by the Trump economy.

I'm also willing to think that national debt may EVENTUALLY trend better under Trump. Of course, I'm less convinced of that, but cautiously hopeful.

I have seen no indication in Trump's past that he will cut total spending, he will cut stuff that does not effect him, his cronies or his family.

I can't remember the last decent budget/debt Presidents we have had.

I'll give you a hint. "I did not have sex with that woman..............Miss Lewinsky!"

You are not allowed to say that. It was not "the man in the blue dress" that actually left a balanced budget and surplus. If there was anything positive it was Newt... Get with the program...

Biden was just bad.

Spending could remain if revenue is growing. That's supposed to be the plan. Really hope the economy ramps up. We'll see

Yep. Clinton and Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich actually reached across the aisle and worked together. That behavior no longer exists in 2025.
Call it a tax, the people are outraged! Call it a tariff, the people get out their checkbooks and wave their American flags!!!

I agree with you there. 100%. We can use some Newt and Tip right now...

I'm hopeful of that as well...but I'm afraid early returns seem to suggest we are still seeing the rich get richer without much relief for the average American.

But it's still early in his second term and he had to start from kind of deep in a hole.

I know the stock market was looking good at the tail end of Biden's run...but it seems like more and more the stock market with its heavy reliance on a handful of tech companies has become detached from the actual real economy. I think things were worse than they looked.

Do you realize that DOGE can't pass bills? That includes things like the BUDGET. CONGRESS must pass those. I.E. this is the fault of CONGRESS, not DOGE. I'm 100% certain if DOGE was creating a budget and they, not CONGRESS, had control of this process, that the results would have been far different.

But, it goes boom and makes a nice sound bite for the news cycle.

When Trump does stuff like this, you have to look at what he is doing elsewhere. It is a distraction. What is he really doing because he knows it is not really impacting drugs.

Its all a distraction to get Epstein files out of news.

He lies so much and so often no one pays attention. Its like a three ring circus.

Do we really think tariffs are the answer? Seems short sighted and long term counterproductive. If we are the "only game in town" so they have to do it, does that hold for 10 years?
