What about the weight and long term damage to the roof. Have a couple neighbors who say they would never have put the panels on, if they knew then what they know now.

So yesterday this young guy shows up at my house on the outskirts of Waco. Turned out to be a solar salesman. Told me Oncor was raising delivery charges in the area. Told him we weren't interested. He asked why. I told him we neither needed nor wanted solar, but thanked him for stopping by. He left. Easy peasy.
Making wind and solar power an ever increasing percentage of the makeup of our Texas Grid will only lead to higher electricity costs and a Grid that becomes more and more unreliable. The subsidies from governments at all levels which forced these power sources on the public destroyed what was a functioning free market in providing electricity to our state. And it should be no surprise that the result has been higher costs per kwh, a Grid that has to go through many contortions due to intermittent power, and less available power as dispatchable sources are removed from service as priority is given to wind and solar power through subsidies.
The land we are using for these wind farms and solar farms is not sustainable and the land could be put to more productive use. We are only beginning to see the costs of dismantling old windmills and solar panels. Can we even do that in a way that protects the environment? Remember, the market did not decide this, the government did. Why would I be in favor of that?
At the least we should do away with all subsidies and see which energy source is cheaper and more reliable. We should all agree on that. Our energy needs are exploding with AI requiring massive amounts of power. We will need coal, natural gas, nuclear supplemented by wind and solar in a minor role.

Actually, it takes more subsidies and credits to make solar appear price competitive than even wind. The entire wind and solar push has been a complete fraud on the public as it is an impossible task to run a country or state on intermittent power. Unless of course you get folks to cough up hundreds of billions a year to prop up the nonsense. Then you will still have to have reliable generators as backup to make it all work out which again just adds massive costs to the poor taxpayer.

That's one reason I stopped caring about recycling. I still do on occasion but only with effort. It's not worth it.
When I looked at satellite images I noticed several HEB's gave solar panels all over their roofs. There's a large solar "farm" (very poor label) northeast of Austin visible in satellite images.
Solar is a great idea in theory except the cost is far too high, they are unreliable (zero power at night or on cloudy days), and they are manufactured in China.

We're seeing now why a green energy plan is smart. Since 9/11 I've wondered why our country continues to placate Saudi Arabia. You send 18 people into my country to fly planes into buildings? And you don't have a diversified economy? Eat your oil.
I'll use wind, solar, thermonuclear, whatever we need except your oil.
We no longer need Persian Gulf oil since we produce more than enough domestically. In fact, we export our excess.
Solar and wind are very expensive boondoggles that are unreliable and don't generate enough electricity to be of real value. Wind actually is a net loss when you consider the production, transportation, & installation costs. And they are ugly eyesores killing birds and whales.
Nuclear is the only real alternative to fossil fuels but a supplement, not replacement. Thankfully, this country is finally getting over the paranoia from Three Mile Island (zero deaths) and the propaganda film from Hollywood starring Jack Lemmon & Jane Fonda.

That's not how oil works. If I'm a West Texas producer, I sell on the global market for the highest profit. That oil doesn't stay domestic.
I'm cool with nuclear. I don't see it as anything other than risk we face just for living and we're smart enough to manage it.
Too bad everything is political. Energy shouldn't be. You don't like wind? So. I don't like that HEB doesn't have barbecue chicken wings.
I see it as irresponsible that our country continues to deploy our military to protect energy when we could deploy strategy to solve this problem.
