Chicago has very tough gun laws. There is an old saying....if you outlaw guns then only the outlaws will have guns.

Recently, I saw a study on Houston vs Chicago. Not in sports but in the study of the cities and crime levels. Did you know that Houston and Chicago have similar populations and similar minority levels? They differ in a big way on gun rights. Chicago having very strict gun laws and Houston has far less restrictive gun laws.

Now to crime levels....Chicago has something like 3 times the murders that Houston has.

Are you speaking of race or culture? The Ben Carson in me would like to know.

Bleks. Bleks are the problem. Everywhere they go they are the problem. Find one city that is majority blek that is not a complete ****-show.

So if it's not culture then it's a pigmentation issue?

No it's culture. Can you name one place in the entire world run and dominated by bleks that is not a total ****show?

Are we talking about actual skin color or those who identify as bleks?

Harrison and Porteroso , do y'all remember growing up with the planned Parenthood clinic down the street? Ya, neither do I.

In the 50's, how did the black families compare to white families?

Did the pigmentation change or the culture? Why?

Easy answer for op: Chicago is a terrible mess because it's been ruled by corrupt Dems for decades.

Chicago is projected to have a 1.1 billion dollar budget deficit next year. The ideas Johnson and some of the aldermen are floating, all to raise revenue, are destined to kill jobs and run more businesses out of the city. Their pension system is woefully underfunded. Without bailouts from outside government sources like the Feds they are on the brink of collapse.

Some want to peg the property tax to inflation. At the same time they ask why people can't afford homes. This after they have enacted numerous regulations on homebuilders. Of course they want the rich to pay more. And place more taxes on services like haircuts, auto repair, and landscape work. All of the things that lead to a depressed economy for their city. And a recipe for more crime as more young Chicago youth have no job opportunities or future.

The DOJ statistics show that since the department began collecting the data in 1976, Chicago is the most corrupt federal judicial district in the nation, and that Illinois, on a per capita basis, is the third most corrupt state.

The best way for the government to fix a backwards culture of violence is to fix poverty, which is directly tied to education. And Republicans are generally seen as wanting to destroy public education, while Democrats are seen as wanting to fix it.

I'll disagree with you there. Republicans DO want to tear down the existing system that is dominated by a leftist, politically monolithic teachers union that is nothing more than an extension of the Democrat party. They then want to introduce actual market forces into the system. This is a radical change, but one that poor communities can embrace, as seen from the effort that some parents put into sending their kids to charter schools.

A lot of Republicans in IL have been as bad as Democrats. George Ryan ring a bell to anyone?

Man, if only some of the people running these big blue cities had thought about spending more money on education...

You want to stop violence in these cities. Get the people committing the violence off the streets.

Violence drives poverty at least as much as poverty drives violence. Stem the violence, over time it will begin to alleviate the poverty.

Things are not so bad in Chicago that the people think a Republican would make them better.

This is why I disagree with Trump et al going and messing with Chicago, Baltimore, whatever.

DC is another thing. That's our nation's capital. It's not a state. Have no problem with the feds exercising some police authority there.

Outside of that, if some states and cities want to allow their bell cow cities to be full of crime and poverty ... let 'em. That's a great thing about federalism. You can (as Reilly did in the article I posted above) compare things like police budgets/activity and crime rates across cities. You can test hypotheses and results. You've got different little experiment stations all over the country.

Let the locals run things the way they want. Let people vote at the ballot box or with their feet. Let the good ideas float to the top and watch the bad ideas flounder.

As I've noted before, if you want to see Democrat politics in action, look no further than CA. Democrat, top to bottom.
And the problems facing CA go much deeper than just its education system.

But if you do want to look at that system, things aren't good there either. Because the liberal approach to education enables, not empowers. It attempts to indoctrinate not educate. And their overall mantra? Blame everyone else in sight when things don't go your way rather than showing accountability and responsibility for one's own actions.

But, oh yeah. Education will fix everything. Nope, not the way Democrats go about it.

Didn't some wise person once say whatever Democrats touch turns to, well, you know.

Funny, growing up in Orange County, and spending a lot of time in SD County as a visitor over the years, I have seen those two places change markedly. And it hasn't for the better. Both have turned purple. If not red. And you can see the difference. And it ain't a good thing. In education. Or anything else.

Gotta love the liberal response though that not ALL areas of liberal cities are bad. Come on over to this side of the tracks. Behind the big walls and into the gilded world of gated communities. Away from the riff raff. What we call Limo Liberal Land. And just ignore the unwashed until you need to go back and pander for their vote every few years. And then do nothing for them but throw them a few scraps. Which just keeps them voting for you, but still down.

Nope, too much evidence that what the Dems stand for not only doesn't help the people they pretend to care about, but actually hurts them in the long run.

Makes you sad for the 70s when Reagan was the Governor or even the early 2000's when Schwarzenegger was the Gov.
