I encourage people to carry whenever they can, with the caveat that you need to get training if you're going to carry a gun. There's a lot of people that carry a gun but have no clue how to use it, so it's doing little more than providing a false sense of security.

A big issue I see here is that Mr. Kirk didn't have any kind of security controlling ingress and egress points at this event, or at least a personal bodyguard of some sort. I'm sure he gets lots of death threats. I know corporate executives are finally waking up and realizing that they need to have security. Unfortunately, as our society grows more and more nihilistic/atheistic, we are going to continue to see more and more murders of public figures like this one
