I can't understand why anyone would celebrate his death
As I alluded to above, it's not as if Charlie were another Osama bin Laden. People did celebrate his death because of all the evil he did (there are plenty of other historical examples). But Charlie was the opposite kind of person in every way. It's completely irrational. That's the nature of bigotry.
I was thinking about this today. It seems that for some on the left, Charlie Kirk
was Osama bin Laden. Some of the celebration that we see, along with literal calls for the assassination of other non-leftist commentators may be bots, but not all of it.
How do you get to a point where you think a guy who goes on college campuses and respectfully debates his opponents about political issues of the day is somehow the equivalent of a man who plans and carries out mass murder? How do you get to the point where you think it's appropriate to put out a press release, which is what social media posts really are, basically saying you're happy he's dead and you want to see more of the same? I think the answer to this may be that people have become so isolated in their political and social silos that anyone who is not on their team is seen as an existential threat and that kind of thought and rhetoric has become normalized. There is a great and tragic irony in the fact that Charlie Kirk spent his time talking respectfully with people who disagreed with his positions.
