I just got back from spending about 5 days in NYC. I have to say it was pretty nice. I was primarily in Midtown but also went to a mets game in Queens and took the train out there. I really didnt see anything crazy. Now that NYC has legal weed people are smoiking it everywhere. Wherever you go people are walking aroung burning doobs. It didnt stink like piss which surprised me bc on my last visit thats what stuck out to me.

I am surprised you enjoyed it, given the large Jewish population.

Rudy cleaned up NYC during his tenure as mayor. It was a total hell hole before that. And it has remained pretty clean ever since, though we have seen how quickly that can change when liberals take charge.

San Fran is a good example of that. Been there many times, and for about a 7-8 year stretch of left looniness, it significantly declined and became quite unsafe. The last couple of years have seen a turnaround, as citizens voted out the wokesters responsible for turning the city into a **** hole.

Same with Austin. I would drive by homeless cities down Caesar Chavez. They were everywhere and crime, in turn, skyrocketed. Then the numbskulls who voted in the liberals had enough, and threatened to vote them out unless the far left policies were reversed. The city, in turn, was cleaned up.

The only thing I don't like about city life is the legal weed. (I'm Chicago). I'm about to spend more time than I'd like in New York. I'm going to enjoy it.

The last time I was in NYC was in the 80s. I had been there for work several times over the years. This time I was Chief Purser onboard a cruise ship and we docked at Pier 56 or 57 I think. Absolutely blown away at how nice the NYPD was. They got OT working the docks and were some of the most personable cops I've been around. And we had about a dozen working with us and they were all really cool.

It's true. They added a tax on 2 nd homes over $5million and worked with the state to add another $4Billion from the state budget.

They also did a DOGE thing lead by the department leadership to identify and eliminate waste. (Not outsiders who didn't understand the departments or reasons)

Mamdami aside, the city is really nice right now. It really hit a low right during and after Covid, but is doing much better, at least the walking around without being harassed part.

Mamdani is doing the damn thang and he's about to host a World Cup championship game.

Why I'm impressed? Government should work for the people. I see too many politicians enriching themselves. He's not doing that. That's a threat to ALL politicians who keep asking for our vote then telling us it's "their" fault that the trains won't run on time.

I'd rather take Johnson's job. I can get support for that, too. Not as polished as guys in the public space.
