He is a phoney baloney Christian.

So, this guy is my representative in Congress, and he's getting a lot of play right now, mostly because he was on Joe Rogan a few weeks ago. He's a very eloquent speaker, and purports to be a devout Christian and a progressive at the same time. As of late, I have seen a lot of my Christian friends really talking him up. I have one in particular that called him a "true follower of Jesus" who puts into practice Christ's words.
He recently said this at a speaking engagement last week in Austin: "Instead of posting the Ten Commandments in every classroom, why don't they post money is the root of all evil in every boardroom? Why don't they post do not judge in every courtroom? Why don't they post turn the other cheek in the halls of the Pentagon? Or it's easier for a rich man to pass through the eye of a needle than to get into the kingdom of heaven on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange?"
I have my own thoughts, and some thoughts on this guys politics in general, but before I commented, was curious as to where others stood on this guy.
Where does he stand on the usual moral issues (abortion as birth control, LGBT, no prosecution for criminals, etc) that "progressive Christians" get wrong?
I'm guessing he is far from being an orthodox (little o) Christian on those issues, which means that he's just using Christian terminology to advance a socialism/communism where Caesar replaces Christ.
Big gay rights supporter, and saw a clip from Rogan where he was attempting to argue that abortion is biblical.
But there are a LOT of Christians being fooled by this guy right now. I see it on my Facebook feed. So called committed Christians really touting this guy.
It's not good.
Based on all his different statements about his beliefs... he's not a follower of Christ, he is a follower of his own created god.
THIS is what the Bible means when it talks about using the Lord's name in vain. It is using God's name to promote evil things like abortion, trans ideology, Marxism, homosexuality, unitarianism, etc

I've never said that before.
I think your hatred of Jews is disrupted your brain again.
The Paestinians are just like most Muslims... they cannot survive without being dominated by totalitarian regime. That is literally the definition of the word "Muslim".
The one chance that the Palestinians had to vote, they voted for a totalitarian, terrorist group that had denied them any future elections.
So since they must be dominated & controlled, they might as well be dominated & controlled by a western nation.
I don't support the mass murder of Gazans, but since they seem to love war & death.... I'm not going to deny them their suicidal tendencies.

I don't disagree, but that is ironic from someone who thinks you can't be a Christian if you don't support the mass murder of Palestinians.
Where is your genocide thread about Iran?
Touche.
Or Ukraine, for that matter.
But Iran and Russia are the good guys in Sam's book.
Words mean things.

It's what I gleaned from the context when you said I wasn't a Christian. It was pretty random, so maybe I'm wrong and you had some other (probably equally weird) reason.
Anyway, your post makes my point better than I did. For every woke heretic on the left (and there are plenty), there's always a raving warmonger on the right who wants to dominate others in the name of God. I am curious how Palestinian Christians fit into this worldview. Are they not really Christian either?

You really can't read, can you?
Try again. I was clearly talking about Muslims and specifically the Gazan Muslims. There are almost zero Christians in Gaza. The Gazans hate Christians almost as much as they hate jews.
Read it again... i don't want the mass murder of Gazans. They need to be kept under control, and so that should be done by western nations rather that Muslim terrorist groups like Hamas or the PLO.
If there was an explosion of Christianity in Gaza, then they would have some hope for freedom and self governance. I would love to see that, but under the current circumstances, there is little hope for such a change.
As things are now, they need to be conquered and have civility & order forced upon them. They have proven time and again that they are incapable of living in peace.
Prove me wrong

Gazan Muslims don't hate Christians. There are more than 45,000 Christians living peacefully with their Muslim neighbors in the West Bank as well.

Incorrect.
Gazans do hate Christians, which is why you only mentioned the very few Christians living in the West Bank area. I had some friends who lived for many years in the West Bank as Christian missionaries. It was not hostile to be there but they were never fully accepted. They talked about how Christians were treated in places lije Bethlehem and Gaza... it was far worse. There missionary friends in Gaza had to flee for safety in 2016 because of violence and threats against their children.
Gaza and Nablus are very different places.

It's a terrible dilemma, but I think we need to be very careful with someone who claims to be Christian and attempts to use those beliefs to justify progressive positions.
But I'll have more on that later.
1. He is not primarily trying to be faithful to Jesus. He's trying to be a successful politician.
2. This guy's mis-quoting and mis-reading of Scripture is pretty blatant and transparent, but a lot of conservative politicians do things along the same line. Beware of anyone who pretends to have Jesus's view of contemporary American politics.
