How far back do you go?

The untimely death of longtime poster LIQR has me reminiscing back to the early days of baylorfans. He joined the site shortly after I did, back in the late 90's. I joined in the Summer of 1999, if I recall, and was one of the first handful of posters. I remember a friend telling me about the site as we were sitting through another route of a Kevin Steele-coached Baylor team. I was using an AOL dial up modem at the time, and it took me forever to load.

LIQR was a Steele supporter, and was on the other side (I was never a Steele fan) - not atypical of our discussions over the years, though there was a time when we were pretty aligned politically. Baylorfans back then was a much needed source of venting on Baylor football during the dark years. Our topics migrated from football to religion and politics, though I don't think we had a separate forum for that back then. Seems we were all posting on one forum.

I am curious how far back other posters go, and what your screennames were?

I started in 1997 at Austin360 and migrated to BaylorFans shortly after it launched.

Same handle.

That is way back. What was the name of the other Baylor website that had the Steele cheerleader? I think he went by BUBear.

I remember BUBear but not another website.

Started on the BU board on Austin360 back in 97 or 98 where we had to slog through the incessant taunts of Statter and Swam4Texas; don't remember my original handle there.

Signed up for BaylorFans on December 19, 1998, while working in the office on a Saturday afternoon trying to wrap up yearend projects and listening to the debate and vote on the Clinton impeachment trial. My name comes from the realization that day that Clinton had turned America into whitetrash nation.

Don't know how far back I go. I've drunk beer with LIQR multiple times. Good dude. Definitely made me recognize my age.

I used to go by "Ashy Negro" on the other site.

I'm pretty sure I was still working on my PhD when I joined BaylorFans -- probably about 2000. I had the same username there--it's pretty much the name I've used on any discussion board. I've never been one of the most active posters on any of the sites.

Here's my FWIW, and if it makes me gay, put your balls in my face.

Over the last 25 years, many of you have become posters I respect and always read, even when I disagree. LIQR was easily a dude I liked following. We've shared a lifetime in person and online.

I often get personal calls that say, "You see what this motherfcucker posed?" or I can't believe you said that. Thank you all for contributing to my life and distraction during my complex days. Life is short. LIQR, you were a good dude.

Austin 360, and. Bear Cave that was ran by CT Bruin. Before Steele - Dave Roberts was the Head Ball Coach. Also on Mike George's site - he went by BUBear.

Always the same handle.

BFans started earlier than that, but IIRC had a server failure in late 1999(?) that caused a loss not only of all previous discussions but of accounts and usernames as well. We all had to start over and sign up again.

Oh yes, the great server crash. Thanks for posting about Statter and Swam4Texas. I was trying to remember those guys' names. Statter was such an A-hole that I created a fake account and outed him as a homosexual on the 360 boards.

I think I joined BFans around mid-2000s. I'm pretty sure I had the same user name...or close to it.

I don't think I was a very active poster until the whole Briles drama started in 2015...that's when i started becoming more active. I think that was about 2 years before the migration to S365.

One old frequent poster that I remember always being provocative on BFans was WACKOBEAR (sp?).

I think he migrated over to S365 for awhile but then left...or changed names.

Did he get banned? He used to always go into tirades over laughingly bad takes. I seem to recall his last, most infamous one was when we were up only 14-7 at the half at KU in 2021, declaring that the entire season was a failure as a result (we ended up winning 45-7 and the rest that year was history).

I joined bfans the summer before Steele's last season. Got more involved during the Dennehy mess. Joined here when that site went away.

A lot of pure-gold comedy went poof when that site died.

MIke - you've taken care of so many of us - from the epic tailgates during the Briles years - to the various bowl and NCAA game tailgates. Still can't believe what you pulled off in 2013 for the OU game, the UT game and then for the Fiesta Bowl - they were all epic, and proved that we could tailgate like any SEC school!

Ah, yes. Spatter. Dictionary version of obnoxious entitled horn fan. Must have been on suicide watch from 2008 to the last two years. Bless his heart.

Circa 2006, my oldest started his baseball career in t-ball. Redfish got him an authentic Baylor baseball team helmet that he wore for years in every game. I drove down to Waco and picked it up one afternoon. He hasn't worn that thing in a long time, so it now sits on the corner of my desk in my office at work.

GarlandBear84 is another good dude. It's been years since we did it, but he and I used to carpool to Baylor football games from time to time. RD2WIN had seats two rows behind us. He did know his track and field. It helped a little that I knew some from when my little brother ran it in middle school, high school, and college. There was even at least once that GarlandBear84, ScottS, and I made a trip up to OKC for the conference tourney.

Yeah, I started out with Baylorfans.

I can still remember arguing with Rebel and Hambone about whether it was better to strike out or put a ball in play (I still think it's better to put the ball in play, double play be damned).

I have met more fantastic Baylor fans and people from these boards than one could fathom.

I feel really good when I think about all of the great people I have met through these venues.

I can sleep good at night when I can think about all the great memories.

Blackout vs Oklahoma.

Overnight tailgating vs OSU.

Alamo Bowl Tailgate,

Baseball regional vs Arkansas tailgates.

NCAA in New Orleans at the "Voilet something or another", lol. Still not a charge.

McVay (sp).

2021 National Championship with all my best buddies!

It's easy to sleep when I have all of those memories and more, especially when I think of all the friends I have met along the way.

I don't have a lot of things, but I do have those memories.

I'm quite grateful for that and everyone that has made that happen.

Thank You all!
