Here's a great article about the experiences of Freddy and others describing ordinary America and having a great time. And it's hilarious:

Here's someone on YouTube describing the same phenomenon (with some of the same examples):

Here's a tourist from South Africa amazed how clean and safe a gas station is at midnight:

We Americans take so much for granted!

Here's another article with more of the same:

Considering how much we loathe soccer, I honestly believe these tourist accounts of the greatness of the US will be more popular to Americans than the World Cup. Especially, since we have a huge birthday party in a few weeks.

No. I never wanted to. Part of me wishes I had when I lived in Berlin for a few months 20 years ago but I didn't. I have a few regrets about the things I missed when I was there.

I have developed more of an appreciation for the game with all my travels to South America. Watching the passion these fans have in bars. Hotel lobbies. Wherever.

And as a friend of mine in Brazil noted, all soccer takes is a ball and a dirt lot.

I would see that all over Brazil. All over Uruguay. Argentina. Many kids who come from nothing.
Soccer in the USA comes off more as a privileged sport with parents putting their kids into leagues at the youngest of ages.

I'm actually surprised that USA soccer isn't bigger. Considering the obsession and widespread nature with the sport at the youth level. I know it's big right now because FIFA matches have come to the USA. When it's elsewhere, it gets press, but not nearly as much.

As far as the FIFA Europeans loving their visit to the USA, it's interesting to watch other YouTubers who come here, travel the states, and say they just don't get what people are talking about when they diss on the USA. They'll say their fellow Europeans (or whichever country they come from) will make comments about the USA. But they'll say, we just don't see it. They will admit that the USA isn't perfect, but will then admit that no place is. And they love their journeys around the USA.

Most of the hate for America, seems to come from certain groups of white Americans here in the USA wearing their hair shirts.

I was out to dinner with a friend who is somewhat liberal. And doesn't like DT. He asked a young waiter from Mexico if he feared what was going on in the USA right now with ICE, etc. He said, no. He has his green card. All his paperwork in order. He's in school and he's working on his citizenship. He's been here for five years. He said if anyone asks him, he will provide his paperwork. He's not concerned. And loves being here.

A lot of the negative discourse is being manufactured by white liberals on "behalf of others." Others who do not necessarily feel they need the "help." In fact, I have a lot of Mexican friends who are all in on DT. And they agree with him on the immigration thing. Because they understand that their native country would do the same thing. And maybe even throw you in jail rather than just escorting you out. They understand it's okay for a nation to expect people to be in a place legally.

Soccer is much bigger everywhere else than the US. We Americans much prefer football (American style), basketball, & baseball. Curiously, each of those is quite popular worldwide and growing in popularity.

I have no problem with other countries or people enjoying it but it's not for me. I'm not sure I can enjoy a game when generally each team only scores rarely.

The same can be said about baseball. If you understand the game, you appreciate what is going on between the scores.

US won 4-1.

Braves beat the White Sox the other day 2-1.
Your ideas are intriguing to me, and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

Valid point. Baseball can be more thoughtful.

I prefer football and basketball over baseball, partly because of the pace. But there is something to be said for a slower game.

Hockey can be low scoring too, but definitely more fast paced. Fast paced for a lot of nothing though, many times.

Hate to tell ya, after the World Cup is over, all these US stadiums and all these US "fans" will go back to not caring about soccer.

USA Soccer? I mean, how many people ever even talk about it? They barely talk about it when they're playing World Cup matches in other countries.

You are probably correct but it's different when it's here in America. Thousands of Americans will watch it live who might not have had the opportunity before and millions are getting caught up in the hype. I probably will still not watch any of the games (or even highlights) but I'm caught up in the fascination the tourists are having with America.

Whether it's their reaction to the beauty of the landscape, southern hospitality, Texas BBQ, visiting Waffle House or Buc-ee's, or anything else the foreign tourists are fun to watch. Look at all the clips posted above for examples. My favorite is the South African amazed by the safety and lack of crime.

Someone commented that when Europeans come to the US its usually one of the blue cesspool cities like NYC or Chicago. But because of the format of the WC. many are experiencing the heartland and just loving it. The friendly people, the food, etc.

I've seen a lot of the footage of the Scots having a blast in Boston and the ranger game showed them all on the broadcast last night. To me Boston would be a much more fun place to visit than Dallas just bc of how centrally located and walkable Boston is. In Dallas these fans are having to navigate buses and trains and staying miles away from things.
