Well, Well, TACO Trump has pulled out of the Nuke deal with Saudi! lol. *** was he thinking to start with? Saudi with Nukes...Yeah that makes sense. They are NOT our friends! As, Mitch noted, follow the money. Trump currently negotiating a Trump branded resort in Ryad. Little Jared has got $2B for his fund from Saudi (MBS). Neither one of those effing Terrorsts countries can have a Nuke. Never. I said Saudi was a horrible deal the minute it was released. Curious why he pulled it back. He got pressure from somewhere.

You and I were teens at a time that Iran was led by a Shah looking to pull Iran into, for lack of a better term, the modern world. Iran was an ally. My dad taught/learned with air force officers from allied countries, including Iran back then. We had them in our home, frequently, for dinner. The first girl I ever kissed was the daughter of one of those officers. (She was half a head taller than me. Kinda big nose. OK, not kinda, just big. Didn't speak a word of English. No wonder she seemed to like me.) Iran seemed like an ally full of good people.

Then 1979 happened. Turns out Iran had, and still has today, a lot of people who hate us. I'm glad we didn't give them more military stuff than we did before 1979.

Fast forward to today, where SA is led by a prince who seems to want to move beyond the constraints of radical Islam. He's not my idea of an ally, but I do hope he succeeds.

But if we don't understand that SA fosters ideals like Wahhabism and act accordingly, we're in for a world of hurt. Don't believe me? Look back at 9/11/2001. 15/19 of those scumbags were Saudi citizens.

I'm not blaming Saudi Arabia for 9/11 any more than I am Bill Clinton for Oklahoma City.

But those same kinda scum reside in SA today as lived in Iran in 1979.

If China and Russia are willing to jet their allies (NoKo, Pakistan, Iran) have them why shouldn't we let our allies have them, too? Are we really harmed that much more by letting SoKo, Japan, Sa, et al have them, too? Would we be wise to signal to our adversaries that there actually IS a cost to letting their (highly irrational) proxies have nukes? (i.e. if we had made it clear to China that the price of Chinese tolerance of NoKo is US tolerance of Japanese and SoKo nukes, then perhaps China would have stopped the NoKo program).

It is precisely the kind of boneheaded conventional wisdom we see from OP and (other) TDS'ers that has gotten us into this mess. SMDH…..

Thank you for sharing your memories from 1979/ 1980. I remember very well. Ronald Reagan was no TACO guy. Iran knew Reagan would do exactly what he said he would do. Donald Trump is not even close. I fear many more American lives will be lost in the coming months. Trump has gotten himself into a war he can't get out of. Trump is happy to blame rising inflation on the war with Iran. A war that he started. How convenient.

Failure to understand the reasons for nonproliferation, as evidenced above, is what got us into this mess. The more nukes there are, the less control we have over them.
