Not sure what was your point there. There have already been clear abuses of Flock cameras, and no shortage of new dangers that need to be guarded against.

You are talking about security cameras in a privately owned business being used for a legitimate purpose. It's not a government system spying on people, watching everything they do, tracking their movements, and basically acting like Orwell's Big Brother.

So you're saying its ok for the govt to outsource the spying to Flock, Palantir or google as long as they arent doing the spying themselves. So a surveillance state is fine as long as its a private one.

I never said anything of the kind. Nobody has the right to spy on us while we are going about our business in public spaces.

Private businesses do have the right to use security cameras to protect themselves. They should act as a deterrent to shoplifters and other criminals. But the criminals must be prosecuted and punished.

George Washington and the rest of the founding fathers oppose them as well. So since there is a large bipartisan spectrum of opposition to these things across society and history...who exactly wants them?

Americans are not going to tolerate a CCP level of surveillance of their lives just because .gov decided it can circumvent the constitution by outsourcing it to the private sector.

At least I hope we won't.

A list of blue cities doing something is not going to convince red cities they should do the same. The list should have included a few more red cities. It might have a larger impact.

The Government has had cameras everywhere for a very long time. Every toll road is loaded with them. Every government building (inside and out) is covered with them. High accident intersections have them. Neighborhoods put them up to reduce crime. Etc.

Regardless, I find the people cutting them down to be a little be wacky. You cut the camera down to protect your privacy - fine, but you voluntarily put in your pocket the greatest surveillance tool every invented - your phone.
