Um. Should it be two enlarged flags per location?

Gotta have respect for her career and how long it was. RIP.

Over the next couple of days much will be made about her great contributions outside of music. I hope several try to fill her shoes.

Have not been so shocked regarding a death since Limited died.

Peace be with you Dolly.

From what I'm seeing she's getting pretty much near universal praise from both sides of the political aisle. That's pretty rare these days.

In 1988 Dolly Parton pulled every 7th and 8th grader in Sevier County into a room and told them to pick a buddy.

She made them sign a contract.. if BOTH graduate, she hands you both $500. One fails, nobody gets paid.

The county dropout rate went from 35% to 6%.

She handed out the checks herself.

In 1989 she offered $500 to every kid in the county who wanted to go to the local college.

When Gatlinburg burned in 2016, she sent 900 families $1,000 a month for six months.

You've probably heard that part.

Here's the part you haven't:

The fund raised more than expected, so she showed up in May and handed every one of those families another $5,000 on top.

Then she quietly put $3 million into the recovery group that handles the years after the news trucks leave.

She built her county an entire hospital.

She played a benefit concert in 2007, Dollywood and the Stampede matched it, and LeConte Medical Center opened in 2010 with a birthing unit and a women's center in it.

In 2022 she started covering 100% of tuition, books, and fees for Dollywood employees.

Full-time, part-time, AND seasonal.

In 1991 she paid for a bald eagle sanctuary because the birds couldn't be released back into the wild, no press release.

And when Hurricane Helene came through here in Western North Carolina, she wrote a personal check for $1 million and her companies matched it.

She didn't owe North Carolina anything, but she helped us anyway.

She started the Imagination Library because her daddy couldn't read or write. Before he passed, he told her it was the most important thing she ever did.

Am still curious what killed Limited Redneck. I think he was only 65. We did not always see eye to eye on politics but I considered him a friend.
Call it a tax, the people are outraged! Call it a tariff, the people get out their checkbooks and wave their American flags!!!

Thats a fair take.

But Dolly wasn't a "celebrity" she was an icon.

Dolly was a great human that I'm sure we have no clue the extent of her philanthropy, but she walked it! What I aways liked about her she was "Dolly" and didn't care what anyone else thinks.

I think we can all agree that the flag is deserving of being flown at half mast for Dolly Parton, the human, rather than Dolly Parton, the celebrity.

Don't disagree. She was awesome all around. I think what for me resonated was her authenticity.

In addition to obviously being a multi talented top notch performer and star, she was also an astute business woman who was smart enough to avoid risking alienating/insulting up to half of her fans by lecturing on political views or other controversial topics. She will be greatly missed.

Yea apparently she turned down several Presidential Medal of Freedom awards from several Presidents because she did not want to be seen as political.

Even though getting an award to me is not "political" on the side the person who is just accepting a nice award.

But shows how she went out of her way to not get involved in politics stuff...unlike many celebrities, artists, and actors.

[Country music legend Dolly Parton famously turned down the Presidential Medal of Freedom multiple times to maintain political neutrality and keep her focus on entertaining. Her decisions were driven by personal timing and a desire to avoid appearing partisan] -Politico
