Thing is,when he was putting on a show at the Town Hall pandering to his constituents, he knew then and there he would sign off on the Landfill when the time came. Very little honesty in politics.80sBEAR said:It was quite an experience, Forest, and I am glad I did it. I did learn very quickly how ruthless politics can be. The Republican chair of Guadalupe County was incensed that I and my fellow independent candidate would even think of challenging her "authority". Our Republican opponent mocked us and told us we had no chance in Guadalupe County of winning running as anything other than a Republican because of straight party ticket voting and he turned out to be absolutely correct.Forest Bueller said:You have my respect for going through that election process. I had a couple of friends run for office, one actually won a State Rep. seat, she the second time around lost in what I would call common dirty politics, as they tried to drag out everything she ever did wrong, she was not the establishment candidate, and she was defeated the second time out.80sBEAR said:Okay *******. Your deception about the 2012 Guadalupe County Judge race stops here.JettRink said:
Reporter and I were both wrong (but I was closer). Jim came in last in a four man race with 5.36%. His wife must not have even voted for him. Very embarrassing results. He is a better aluminum salesman than he would be a Judge anyways.
Back in 2012, our Republican Guadalupe County Judge Mike Wiggins was busted for marijuana possession in a hotel room in College Station, TX. Due to pressure from Guadalupe County citizens, he resigned after 30 days. Ironically, this was a few days after the deadline to run in the primary for the November election. The Republican Party of Guadalupe County immediately appointed their hand-picked candidate, Larry Jones, to not only be the Guadalupe County Judge but the candidate in the November election. Many citizens of Guadalupe County cried foul. Guadalupe County Election Commission asked for applicants and 24 people (including me) applied. The Republican Party of Guad. Co. appealed to the Texas Election Commission and they ruled that additional candidates could run, but they can only run as Independents and NOT as Republicans or Democrats, and must procure at least 500 signatures of registered voters in Guadalupe County. Only myself and a friend of mine decided to proceed, and the field of 24 narrowed to just 2. Guadalupe County is as much of a Red county as you will find in Texas. Based on straight party ticket voting along with a very polarized Presidential election, my friend Nick and I knew our run was only symbolic and we had little or no chance of winning as Independents. As it turns out, 78 percent of the voters voted straight party ticket. Yes, my friend Nick and I lost big, but we made our point. We worked hard to just be listed as Independents on the ballot.
So there you go. That is the part that you continually leave out but that is just who you are.
Enough. My name is Jim Ward from Seguin, Texas. What is your name? Yeah, that is what I thought and I don't blame you. You have been an embarrassment to Baylor and cost all of us not only hundreds of millions of dollars, but have greatly damaged our reputation. Now please go the Hell away.
Politics at any level is not for the faint of heart, you should give it another run, when you can get on the ticket as a Republican.
The most interesting point that comes to mind in one of our town hall debates, each candidate was asked if they supported a controversial landfill that was proposed for the east side of the county. We were all asked if we were opposed or in favor of the Post Oak Dump. I explained that I felt like citizens of Guadalupe County should be responsible for our own waste and did not think to was right to export our garbage to other counties. I was booed and hissed at for my answer by the vocal and active opposition to this landfill. My fellow Independent's answer was similar to mine. Our republican counterpart said something along the lines of "I not only do not support the Post Oak Dump but there will not be ANY landfills in Guadalupe County on my watch!" The crowd erupted with applause.
About two weeks after our ass-kicking in the election, one of the first things the Republican elect did was to sign the permit for the Post Oak Dump required by TCEQ. I had to laugh. That is how politics works.
