Would have been far less blood shed if somehow the owners of the first 200 slave ships trying to unload their 'cargo' on our shores.......were hung from their own yard arms .

Because some politician, Lincoln, gave an eloquent obamaesque speech about slavery, and the troops fell back in line taking the speech bait hook, line and sinker. War was about maintaining that southern farmland in union and not allowing succession and not slavery until then. When gas went out on that reason(not allowing succession) to die Lincoln and his political swamp played their emotional Ace card of anti-slavery(not mentioned til then!) to keep the troops a marching to their literal death. Amazing what politicians can accomplish with an eloquent speech! IE Obama! People do same today, not much has changed in 150 years, or forever for that matter
