I should have clarified, only my 1st paragraph was in response to your post, rest was just me rambling in general.Canada2017 said:
Thank you for sharing your opinions.
With the exception of a total sociopath I knew in college ...I don't hate anyone. Least of all for expressing opions different than mine.
Yes obesity is a huge problem, yes there is divorce among Christians ( though our priest tells us it is a lower rate ) and I don't 'fear' what's happening in the United States because...
A. There is no way to stop it now
B. Have enough assets with which to insulate my family.
C. Odds are I'll be dead within 20 years anyway.
Peace be with you.
I mentioned those issues (obesity and divorce) more as evidence that we have a consumption problem in this country not limited to one party. It is a direct result of the marketing machine that drives "capitalism", in that you need MORE to be happy! You get more, and you have as big a void if not more that needs to get satiated again and so goes the machine.
Lets call a spade a spade, if you are religious make no mistake, "work" is not a reward, it is a punishment from God (Adam and Eve story from Genesis). Puritans glorified it and is now used by the elite to get us to do their work for them while they throw scraps. CEO pay 361x that of average worker, used to be around 20x.
Question for the Docs/Mikes of the world looking for the next thing to be triggered by, if everything we were doing was right, why are we so unhappy and sick as a population? Why is anti-depressant use soaring?
R2whatever, I totally agree. One of my favorite under grad papers was in "Death and Dying" class @ BU. I interviewed around 70 some seniors in a nursing home. 100% said they wished they worked less and spent more time with their family/friends. That was very telling to me and I have tried to live my life by that using our $ for experiences/relationships rather than stuff.
