AUSTIN "He is so light in the loafers he floats off the ground at times."

Those were the words Republican Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick used on Fox News on Monday night to describe Beto O'Rourke, suggesting that the Democrat running for president is gay.

Patrick made the comments while criticizing O'Rourke's immigration policy on "The Ingraham Angle." He also called O'Rourke "a moron" and "unbelievable."

I use to think Rick Perry was out biggest idiot but this guy is something else.

I was watching when he said that and he made sure to clarify when asked that it had nothing to do w/ how this is being spun. Nice try though liberal media - as usual.

He was mocking him for his moronic statements - his words.

Fascinating how so many on the Left make sure to tell us what someone meant, even if they did not, and focus on implied 'code words' even when its only in their fetid imagination.

Talk about spin. "Light in the loafers" is a well-known euphemism for being gay. There are well-known euphemisms for being dumb ("not the sharpest knife in the drawer" etc.). Patrick either meant to imply Beto was gay and is now backtracking or meant to imply Beto was dumb, yet was stupid enough to mangle his own insult.

You have 3 choices: Patrick is a homophobe. Patrick is dumb. Patrick is both.

Or, he was simply incorrect in his use of an expression.

Obama mispronounced "corpsman" by sounding out the "p" and "s". He also said "57 states". Was he either dumb or anti-American, or both?

(The argument against Obama is much stronger, though. How in the world does anyone mess up the number of states??)

LOL, that's not spin, it's a direct ****ing quote and anybody with two neurons knows what it means or can google it.

“Life, liberty, and property do not exist because men have made laws. On the contrary, it was the fact that life, liberty, and property existed beforehand that caused men to make laws in the first place.” (The Law, p.6) Frederic Bastiat

This thread was a letdown, I expected to see Patrick being reviled for his anti-democratic authoritarianism regarding the pot bill that passed the House. Wadda******.

The proposed bill, BTW, was pathetic, but it was bipartisan at least and partially reflected what the citizens of Texas want. Patrick, of course, knows better.

Is on staff at Fox now?

It is the explanation, not the mistake, that leads to the alternatives. When Obama's referenced mistakes were pointed out he did not try to justify them with some ridiculous explanation.

Did Dan Patrick stop maturing emotionally in fifth grade?

Calling a political opponent "light in the loafers" and a "moron" is, well, worthy of the political dialog on this forum. Which is why it resonated with the usual Trump-pets.

I don't think O'Rourke's candidacy will go anywhere. So Patrick has wasted a lot of perfectly good vitriol he could heap on other Democratic politicians for the benefit of the evangelical amen chorus. Although it appears he's a jerk with a bottomless supply of nastiness to screw to the likes of Laura Ingraham and her receptive audience.
