Could be because when "the media" reached out to Mrs. Reade in 2019 about why she left Biden's office she gave a substantially different story.
A strange situation, and oddly seems like a Karma echo of 2016.
Democrats, you may recall, trotted out women to accuse Trump of all manner of bad behavior. The idea was that if it made him withdraw from the race, the GOP would lose. If he stayed in, the GOP would be damaged and would likely lose.
Now we have an accusation against Biden, the presumptive DNC nominee. The substance of the claim depends on who you ask, but it's not going away, in part because of Biden's past history of creepy behavior, some on air.
I think it would be foolish to count on this taking down Biden, or even hurting him that much. Democrats will support him because they feel they have to in order to win this fall. Republicans were never going to vote for Biden, anyway, so that changes nothing on that side.
The only likely effect is that this incident could drive down left-leaning independent voter participation, but it may increase turnout from Democrats worried Biden needs their help.

I was open from day one about skepticism of these types of claims. Foe me it's always been the double standard. Reade if nothing shown light on hypocrisy.

Not really, the "liberal media" talked to this lady about Biden in 2019, and even after she changed her story MSNBC was still going to give her a sit-down interview until she cancelled it. Just because they didn't make it the number 1 story during a global pandemic doesnt mean they ignored it. And it could just be that I haven't gone looking for it, but I haven't seen anywhere near the level of nastiness towards Reade as what Blasey-Ford endured.

He's even consented to releasing a document from Senate records that Mrs. Reade sought (although she has now apparently changed her mind about what they will show).

No, you obviously haven't gone looking for it. I've seen the exact same comments towards Reade on twitter that I saw towards Blasey-Ford. And nasty comments towards "liberal" media or social media types who dared to post a link to the Reade story. And lets not forget the NH state senator who questioned if someone could actually be sexually assaulted using their fingers.HuMcK said:

CNN went days without reporting on it. Why did someone other than CNN find the phone call to Larry King Live from her mother? That is their own show, no one should have beaten them to reporting on that.
The main thing this story does is remind both sides that neither has the moral high ground when it comes to overlooking potential questionable acts if it serves their greater cause.

No, We, Democrats, did not believe a yearbook posts. But The allegation and the timing of its revelation was a political stunt by the Democrats. We slandered Justice Kavanaugh and gave him no time to prepare a response.Jack Bauer said:
