A one-time $700 payment for each household? That is sure a game changer! $700 should get a family of four in Maui through the next day. The cost of living on the Hawaiian Islands was among the highest in the country BEFORE the wildfires.

Amazing to me how out of touch with reality this administration is. Decisions like this are what happens when you have surrounded yourself with stupid and incompetent people.
Another aid package???? How about real insurance reform?

Maybe China Joe could slip those people in Maui a few Ukraine bucks. Maybe the Big Guy can temporarily forego his ten percent. I won't hold my breath.

Much like what has happened in Florida, the middle class on the Hawaiian Islands will be priced out of homeowner's insurance if they can get it at all.

That is my biggest fear for Maui once they get through the event recovery phase. The people that were living there will be pushed out by big money redevelopment. I am seeing it in Florida now. Pisses me off.

All this great redevelopment is coming in and the only ones that can afford it are the wealthy. Too many million-dollar condos displacing people that lived and enjoyed places for generations. The 40-something developers/PMs I am seeing could care less. Being funded by Hedge Fund guys who now have more money than small Caribbean nations...

If Jason Maona wants to help Maui, protect the people that have been there. Telling tourists to stay away now, is fine. But they are going to need an advocate with a bully pulpit to protect that middle and lower class. Time for Tulsi to step up. Pass some laws protecting the heritage.

I looked it up and Meghan Rapinoe is 38 years old. Seems like a marketing thing not a winning thing to put a 38 year old on the field with a bunch of 20 somethings. Is she really the best the US could field for the team? She has to be a couple steps slow at that age.
When Megan Rapinoe, a former co-captain of America's national women's soccer team, was asked whether she would welcome a "transgender woman" on the U.S. women's soccer team "even if that woman took the place of someone assigned female at birth" Rapinoe was unflinching: "Absolutely."
"'You're taking a real woman's place,' that's the part of the argument that's still extremely transphobic. I see trans women as real women," the outspoken athlete and progressive activist told Time in an interview published on Monday. "What you're saying automatically in the argument you're sort of telling on yourself already is you don't believe these people are women. Therefore, they're taking the other spot. I don't feel that way."

"We as a country are trying to legislate away people's full humanity. It's particularly frustrating when women's sports is weaponized," Rapinoe added. "Oh, now we care about fairness? Now we care about women's sports? That's total bulls**t. And show me all the trans people who are nefariously taking advantage of being trans in sports. It's just not happening."

It's not happening except every week..

Unfortunately, Ford Motor Co. has bought into the electric car fantasy. This is not going to end well for them. All Ford can hope for is a Democrat administration at default time and they won't be forced to pay back their loan. Ultimately, us taxpayers will pay for this too.

Ford spun off the electric division because it was an albatross that was killing profit. They did that specifically so that so they could show that the main auto division was profitable and show just how much loss there was on the electric side.

I don't think they are as sold out as you might think. They are, smartly, doing what the federal government is demanding so that if the technology wins they are poised well. If it loses they can shut down that division.

So your issue is with the name. I think that's a fair criticism. You would have thought they would learn with the 500/Taurus fiasco. The market for cars, and especially sports cars, is shrinking pretty dramatically. The idea for an SUEV makes perfect sense. The GT models are pretty darned quick.

I agree about the name btw. It's 100% not a Mustang regardless of what's in the nameplate. You could argue a Mustang II isn't very Mustang either though.

Mustang II is a classic mistake. Just like the Bronco II.

Funny, I work with AVs and CVs. Part of one of my presentations is why would anyone want to make a 68 GTO automated, that is just wrong.

I have migrated to the position that if you are going to make a car EV/AV/CV at least be true to the spirit of the brand! I would be all over a 2 door EV Thunderbird (my wife has a Miata), a Thunderbird SUV?? bleh...

You have about another 30 years of this until my generation dies out and the newer generations just don't care about stuff like this. The younger generations seem more about personal convenience and in my opinion lack heart...

I bought a '75 K5 Blazer, while I was at Baylor. Did a ton of work on it. Removed the hardtop and put on a full soft top. That was the last year that they made it convertible all the way to the windshield. It was lifted with 33" mud tires... crate 350 motor with a rebuilt 700R4 transmission. It was a beast, and I loved it.

Wife didn't like it so much, so I had to get rid of it once the kids started coming.

If GM made a modern version based off that truck... it would sell like hotcakes!

Florida resident here. Where you live means alot, a Cat 4 in Louisiana lowlands can be as bad as Cat 5 in normal areas. Pay attention to what Emergency Mgt tells you.

Cat 2 and below - Growing up these were Hurricane Party storms. Break out the electric blender, old Jimmy Buffet tapes and lanterns... Make sure anything is tied down or brought in and invite some people over... Now days, things are much more serious (everything is serious today...). Stores are bought out, etc... Get water and propane.

Cat 3 - Hunker down. Board up and be prepared for a dark and stormy night, prepare...

Cat 4 - If they tell you to evacuate, listen. Follow instructions, board up windows, get water, batteries and propane. Cat 4s are serious.

Cat 5 - Get out, you do not want to be anywhere near where a Cat 5 monster comes ashore... They are bad news, period.

The 2 biggest factors I have seen is flood area and year of building Construction. Anything build after Hurricane Andrew is usually good. Anything before, is suspect.

In CA I would think with your earthquake building codes, your structures should be good. Biggest thing I would worry about there is mud slides. How are those hills going to handle the water, wind and intensity? Let me know how it goes, I am curious. We go through this every year and have for centuries, so it is part of the culture. We would have no idea how to deal with an earthquake!

I love the K5.

Sounds familiar! Had a beautiful 92 F150, dual tanks, chrome. But it was a bench seat...
My 96 F150 Eddie Bauer Supercab had a bench seat. I loved that truck too. That 351 V8 was a killer!

That bench seat was nice when I was cruising with a girl... nothing getting in the way.

[Verse 1]
Ridin' along in my automobile
My baby beside me at the wheel
I stole a kiss at the turn of a mile
My curiosity runnin' wild
Cruisin' and playin' the radio
With no particular place to go

[Verse 2]
Ridin' along in my automobile
I's anxious to tell her the way I feel
So I told her softly and sincere
And she leaned and whispered in my ear
Cuddlin' more and drivin' slow
With no particular place to go

[Verse 3]
No particular place to go
So we parked way out on the kokomo
The night was young and the moon was bold
So we both decided to take a stroll
Can you imagine the way I felt?
I couldn't unfasten her safety belt

[Verse 4]
Ridin' along in my calaboose
Still tryin' to get her belt aloose
All the way home I held a grudge
But the safety belt it wouldn't budge
Cruisin' and playin' the radio
With no particular place to go
