The first flight touched down last night in Florida, with DeSantis in attendance and waiting for the evacuees 270 Americans, 91 of them children on the tarmac. The optics were a coup for DeSantis, while Trump shouted all caps away on Truth Social, and Biden slurred his way through a coordinated 60 Minutes interview, where, as his usual aged and aloof self, he, once again, did not address American casualties.

It really is a shame, DeSantis would be an outstanding President probably like Truman. He would make the tough decisions, deliver but not very likeable. He would be a damn good President, but not in an era where how you say things and appear is more important than what you do
DeSantis is still my #1 without a doubt. Don't confuse "not likeable" with "all business."

No mean tweets. No "grab her by the p**sy" jokes. All business. As it should be.

I agree. DeSantis would be an effective, yet boring President. Competency does not seem to matter, just charisma, wanting to blow things up and yelling.

there are a lot of boring Republicans who do not care for theatrics. There are also a lot of animated Republicans who do like theatrics. And then there are a few of us who wish the two different kinds of Republicans could learn to appreciate that each of them do, in fact, need each other.

Politics IS theatrics. If you do not engage in them, you are going to get beat by the side which does. You must have orators out front organizing public opinion. And somewhere, back in the bowels of grey buildings, you must also have sober men & women going about the business of statecraft. It. takes. both.

After seeing the evil in the world the last few weeks, I don't want a friendly President. I want one that the bad guys despise, fear and respect.
I feel pretty sure DeSantis would be pretty unpopular with the terrorist set and they would love to paint him as "unlikable".
Now if only the Republican Party can get back to all business and get a Speaker in place... and no fake Kelly temp speaker.

It looks like 22 RINO's need to be primaried.

People need to think more: we don't want Pres. Lindsay Graham. OK, he doesn't have much charisma but he definitely likes the idea of blowing things up! You know who did have charisma? Hitler. Seriously.

Joe Biden is a worse politician. He's almost like the title character in Weekend at Bernie's and he does a whole lot more than say stupid things. He also DOES a lot of stupid things with real consequences.

I agree. Hell, my favorite General from the WW2 era is Marshall, he knew how to get things done and the value of both. Loved what he told Eisenhower when Ike wanted a Combat Command,

"Great just what we need another Division Commander. I have enough of those, but people who understand logistics, coalition building and how organize, I don't have those. You are more valuable in your role than another Division Commander." (paraphrasing, not going to look up exact this early and sober. You get the idea, we all have value and we need all of us)

She's horrible but not doing anything except embarrassing herself & her party. Biden is signing executive orders, traveling around the world making an ass of himself, and, nominally at least, implementing policies that are weakening American, destroying our economy, & damaging our liberties. He's also probably the most crooked politician in Washington, and that's saying a lot.

It's not even close.

I agree all of that in bold 100%. I doubted RDS would win, but thought he'd do a lot better. In no small part, his difficulties are really pretty simple - he's just up against a better candidate for the moment. At this point in time, seems pretty clear he's going to lose the VP nod to Haley. I'd prefer RDS to her, but she's a better candidate this point in time.

I know you think no one, RDS in particular, would be willing to be Trump's VP. You are wrong about that. Unless Trump is up against some really bad polling, any of them will take the nod. (except for ol' perpetual panty wad Asa). And odds are, Trump will continue to get stronger as we go forward, and Biden will continue to get weaker.

Marshall was a titan. He had WWII command organized in his mind every day he woke up after 11 November 1918.

I will say this, going back to Truman. Was just at the Little White House in Key West, Truman is on my mind. Sorry, but the decisions that guy had to make, he gets too little credit.

I do think you have a point on the VP role. At Trump's age, legal issues, and his propensity to get impeached as President, there is a good shot the VP will have to step up. So, like serving for a sick FDR, VP for Trump could end up being President. So, I can see a path for VP. I just think Trump doesn't like RDS...

Yep... this is who they are.

There are WAY too many people in Congress, just like her. Yes, she is one of the worst and always has been one of the worst. It doesn't help that she is also one of the dumbest people on the planet.

Saddest thing is that she will win re-election by a landslide because her inner-city democrat constituents are even dumber than her. They would vote for a steaming pile of dog ****, if it had a D next to its name. I say that because that is exactly what they do when they vote for Shelia Jackson Lee. She give dog **** a bad rap.

Trump has a very good track record of making nice with anyone who will make nice with him.

Biggest reason the VP job will be attractive is that Trump only has 1 term left. Whoever is his VP will be in a very commanding position to win the nomination for 2028. The VP job is not terribly demanding, affording the VP ample time to hop around the country fundraising and building networks for 2028. Everyone else will be struggling to get national notice. Yes, a couple of them will be in office until 2026 (RDS, Youngkin) but those are not as advantageous positions as VP.
