Prime 21 Recap
I was going to do an article, but this is easier to engage with everyone on. First off, this camp is the best camp of the year, in my opinion. Elite talent, small groups, only skill positions, plenty of coaching, and tons of competition. Getting to see these kids work with former and current NFL-All Pros and Hall of Fame members is interesting. Some don't even know who the guys are until they are introduced by the Under Armour reps and the lights go on. Under Armour also is receptive to media. They outline where you can stand, they allot time for us to talk to recruits, they feed us, and give out updated rosters if kids don't come or change numbers. Quarterback: Behren Morton has a quick release and strong arm. He's skinny, but what do you expect from a kid that hasn't entered his Junior year yet. He's 6-2ish and you could see the speed of the game picking up for him. Morton's dad is a coach and he resembles a taller Briles. He's aware of which schools are recruiting which QBs and he seemed perplexed by A&M continuing to recruit Behren while having Eli Stowers committed. He also said Tech told him Behren was the only QB Tech had offered. Dematrius Davis is thicker and more polished than Morton at this stage. He's been playing a more competitive level of football, and knows the game. Baylor would take either, but Davis is less worried about Stowers being committed to A&M. Shedeur Sanders looked better than he did in the past, but he's not on the level of Morton or Davis.Running Back:I never really got a chance to watch them a ton, but it was interesting to see Jaden Hullaby there and not be able to pull away from 2021 and 2022 DBs and LBs. Emeka Megwa has a little bit of a speech impediment and is shy, but wow, he looks good.Wide Receiver:Isaiah Brevard was the best kid there. Don't care what anyone says. He caught everything but a two point conversion that may have been tipped to tie for the championship game. He's not committed to anyone and maybe he wants out of Mississippi. He needs an offer.Blaine Green looked talented and ready to compete. Bryson Green didn't have as good of a day. I'm not sure I saw Bryson catch a ball. Blaine caught everything thrown his way. I tried to catch up to both, but I believe they left early.Never really noticed Cody Jackson doing anything in the event.Landen King looked great. Not the fastest, but used his big body to shield off DBs.Armani Winfield is so smooth and controlled for a 2022. Jaedon Wilson had some drops and his brother Dontre Wilson ripped him a new ass. He did better as the day went on and said McGuire was his guy.Malik Nabers may be coming to see Baylor soon. His coach was impressed with Baylor coming into Louisiana and he loves Jalen Celestine. Said Baylor stole that kid.Quaydarius Davis didn't do much at the event that I remember. Him being a 96+ and Brevard being a 90 is a head scratcher.Linebackers:There were five linebackers and I'd rate them like this as I spent about 30 minutes watching them.Derrick Harris Jr is legit. He's going to kill it for someone and he likes Baylor. Said he'd try to make it Saturday. He's long, moves well, and just has a nose for the ball.Clayton Smith has the size and is raw. Surprised Baylor hasn't offered, but you never know what they may have seen, but you can see he's long, skinny, and needs a sandwich, but is still 200+ and 6-3. His hips are a bit tight.Jordan Crook needs to grow, but he's a taller Taylor Young at this point and if he gets to 6-1 he'll be a MLB with great lateral movement and size for this 2022.Kobie McKinzie is a 2022 headed to DE if he continues to get taller and DT if he continues to eat. He's got a trunk on him and will only get bigger as he ages.Rejhan Tatum of Del City didn't have the feet or speed of the others.Defensive Backs:This is a Deion Sanders event and defensive backs are a premium and today was not a disappointment for those that like defensive backs and Baylor should almost offer any that meet their requirements.Romario Noel is 6-2.5 196 and Baylor is his only offer and he loves Baylor. He is explosive and long. Good kid, strong in press and zone. If he's not able to play CB, he's going to be a great safety or linebacker. Jimmy Wyrick is 5-9 to 5-10, but he can cover. Great competitor.Denver Harris is going to be so good. He's still figuring it out, but just a great set of tools.Avyonne Jones looked good, but needs to grow.Kavian Gaither got a ton of praise from his position coach to me while talking with him after to see who stood out.Chase Lowery out of Frisco has some talent and recently camped at BU. Talked with his father and he said they hope to hear from the Bears.Kaine Williams is freaky big and going to be a huge safety.Kaleb Higgins is thin, but so good. He's athletic and long. Baylor is on him, but wasn't able to catch up to him.Questions?
