Running Recruiting Updates through Signing Day
Signing Day is December 21st so this thread will just keep track of all activity recruiting wise including coaches on the road, transfer portal information, offers, updates, and more.12/2Dallas Baker and Shawn Bell were at the Dripping Springs vs Vandegrift game to see Austin Novosad and Blake Frazier.Eric Mateos went by to see Sean Thompkins in Georgia.12/5Dave Aranda went to see Dawson Pendergrass.Baylor offers Wake Forest transfer portal cornerback Gavin Holmes.Dave Aranda visited Trey Wilson and LeVar Thornton 12/6 3:28pmKeep an eye on LSU transfer WR Jack Bech. Baylor recruited him out of high school thanks to a close relationship with Jorge Munoz. There are still connections on the staff with Keava Soil-Cormier and others from his original recruitment. The former four-star prospect had 689 yards and four touchdowns on 59 receptions in 25 games from 2021-22.12/6 5:00pmFree State (KS) High School offensive lineman Calvin Clements has decommitted from Baylor and it looks like a flip to Kansas is likely.Eric Mateos visited Wes Tucker today.12/6 5:24pmBYU OL transfer Campbell Barrington will be on an official visit to Baylor this weekend. He has received an offer from the Bears and is in communication with Eric Mateos.I like how this is trending but this weekend will be an indication one way or another, imo.And yes, I believe the loss of Calvin Clements as a commit opened up this spot.Barrington played a ton for BYU as a true freshman in 2021 before battling a few injuries that kept him out of the lineup this fall.12/7 9:10amFranklin running back Bryson Washington plans on enrolling early at Baylor following this semester and Franklin's state championship run. The 6-foot-0, 200-pound back has totaled 1,860 yards rushing and 29 touchdowns so far this season.Baylor is at eight early enrollees in the 2023 class following the loss of Calvin Clements who was set to enroll early.Early Enrollee ListQB Austin NovosadTE Hawkins PolleyTE Matthew KlopfensteinOL Wes TuckerOLB/DE Trey WilsonLB Taurean YorkCB Carl Williams IVRB Bryson Washington12/7 9:53amA name to keep an eye on that entered the portal on Wednesday morning is Florida defensive line tackle Jalen Lee. Lee, originally of Louisiana, was committed to LSU as a recruit of Dennis Johnson and Dave Aranda in the 2020 class. He ultimately signed with Florida. Baylor is in search of a nose tackle type in this class and Lee could become a great addition, but as always, this could come down to being a culture fit. The first hand knowledge of Lee will be a great tool for Aranda and staff.Lee (6-2, 299) started three games this season for Florida and appeared in at 12 regular season games. In his career he has four starts and 25 total games played and registered 19 tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss and 1.0 sack.12/7 9:56amShawn Bell went to see Walker White yesterday in Arkansas. He is looking more and more like a priority for the 2024 class.12/7 10:55amCollin D'Angelo and PJ Hall visited DJ Coleman last night since Roberts and Wheat are gone.Hall works with safeties as a grad assistant and D'Angelo is Quality Control Coach/Defensive Analyst who works primarily with LB's and safeties. D'Angelo is a strong recruiter who has built good relationships with many prospects in the class.12/7 4:42pmDennis Johnson was at Ridge Point HS today to see DK Kalu and Mason Dossett plus a 2024 prospect to keep an eye on Ashton Bethel-Roman.12/7 5:08pmDallas Baker and Juice Johnson went by Midlothian High School to see 2024 WR Bryant Wesco today.12/7 10:30pmShawn Bell had an in-home visit in Dripping Springs at Austin Novosad house. Everything went really well. He will be signing on early signing day and enrolling in January.12/8 9:08amArkansas transfer defensive/nose tackle Taylor Lewis has been in constant contact with Tyler Foster daily and should be on a recruiting call with Dennis Johnson shortly. He has two years of eligibility remaining. The 6-foot-3, 317-pound prospect played three seasons at College of the Canyons before landing at Arkansas. He was a unanimous selection for first-team All-SCFA and was added to the Region III All-California Community College team. Lewis chose Arkansas over Auburn, Nebraska, Missouri, Oregon State, Washington State, and UTSA among others.Lewis enrolled at Arkansas in June before entering the transfer portal in late August right before the season began. He did not play a single snap in Fayetteville. The Baylor staff has been doing some due diligence here as they have been talking to multiple former coaches, looking at his transcripts, and just trying to learn more about him before offering. As usual culture fit is always key for this Baylor staff.Marshall, Memphis, and Maryland are the primary schools standing out to Lewis and the bigger one's who have offered at this time. He has a visit set to Memphis.Lewis is looking to enroll in January which means making a commitment decision in the next couple weeks. If Baylor decides to offer I feel really good about its chances to land the massive nose tackle prospect.12/8 9:10amBaylor is on LSU WR transfer Jack Bech. As I mentioned yesterday, this is a guy you take from a talent standpoint but also a culture standpoint. He is about the right things and checks boxes of toughness, YAC and emotion as well. TCU is making a big push with him and with a different type of approach. Everything is point in the direction of this being a head to head battle between Baylor and TCU.12/8 12:48pmDave Aranda went to see Corey Kelly for an in-home visit last night.12/8 3:34pmHutchinson CC nose tackle Jerrell Boykins is going to make a decision on where he will take his OV's over the weekend with his coaches. He is getting ready for the JUCO National Championship Game which is Wednesday the 14th and is the main reason visits haven't happened for him yet. He is focused on that right now. Baylor is still in a good spot to get him on campus and secure his commitment but the wait will be a little longer than I expected.12/8 3:41pmOV List It is a small list this weekend but still one that is worth keeping an eye on. It seems like the next official visits might be sporadic from recruits over the next week or so up to Signing Day on the 21st.CommitsMesquite Horn S DJ ColemanLewisville CB Caden JenkinsDavie (NC) P/K Palmer WilliamsTransfer ProspectsBYU OL Campbell Barrington12/9 8:06amKevin Curtis had an an in-home visit with Tayshawn Wilson and his family last night.12/9 9:00pmCollin D'Angelo went by Jasper High School to see priority 2024 target Tyanthony Smith as well as Kiotti Armstrong and Britain Simmons.12/9 9:11pmI still have not been able to confirm with Trey Wilson yet this week but it certainly sounds like he will be visiting TCU this weekend along with quite a few other high profile recruits like Jayvon Thomas, Mikal Harrison-Pilot, and Jamel Johnson. This will be something to monitor over the weekend.12/9 1:59pmShawn Bell and Collin D'Angelo had an in-home visit with LSU WR transfer Jack Bech last night. Things continue to be positive here but TCU is still heavily involved. D'Angelo had a relationship with Bech from his time at LSU.12/9 2:49pmCaleb Collins visited Clear Lake High School yesterday to see 2024 DB and Texas commit Hunter Moddon.12/9 9:47pmSoutheastern Louisiana cornerback Zy Alexander was offered by Baylor today. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound prospect has totaled nine interceptions, a forced fumble, five pass breakups, and 31 tackles the last two seasons. He has two years of eligibility remainingAlexander has offers from USC, Miami, Michigan State, Marshall, Houston, Georgia State University, West Virginia, Tulane and Louisiana Tech. 12/12 7:38pmKevin Curtis reached out to Ole Miss transfer cornerback Miles Battle over the weekend just to make the initial contact. I will have more on him if the relationship continues but at minimum contact has been made.12/13 11:17amLSU transfer WR Jack Bech will start his official visit tonight and it will last till Thursday.12/14 9:41amLSU transfer OL Marcus Dummervil heard from Baylor last night after he entered the transfer portal earlier in the day. The 6-foot-6, 305-pound tackle prospect was a top 200 player in the country for the 2020 class and 4-star with 46 offers. He lost his redshirt this year in the SEC Championship game so he will have two years of eligibility remaining.12/14 9:43am7 days till Signing Day!!!12/14 11:00amBaylor Head Coach Dave Aranda will be in Dripping Springs to see Austin Novosad and his family on Friday. Shawn Bell was there last week for an in-home visit and was at Novosad's final playoff game the week before but he will not be there on this visit as this will just be Aranda. This is a big opportunity for Dave Aranda to seal the deal before the weekend and ensure that the Bears hold onto the biggest priority in the class as Signing Day approaches.12/14 4:27pmBaylor has offered John Curtis (LA) 2023 linebacker Justin Horne for football and track.I will have more notes tomorrow but Monday is the day to circle. He is going to Texas Tech for an official visit this weekend then I believe he will decide between signing there or signing with Louisiana (where he is committed) or waiting till February. Obviously Baylor would likely need him to wait. Either way he is making that decision on Monday.12/14 6:24pmTrey Wilson will be at Baylor this weekend to watch bowl practice for a few days.12/15 9:39amI am expecting Hutchinson CC nose tackle Jerrell Boykins to take an official visit very, very soon. May even be today since his team lost in the NJCAA National Championship yesterday. He is a priority for this class as there is a big need for a nose tackle on the roster plus he is very talented and would give the Bears a very strong replacement for Apu Ika.UPDATE: He let me know he is on campus right now.12/15 12:08pmWake Forrest cornerback Gavin Holmes is taking an official visit to Texas this weekend and Penn State on January 7-8. Baylor's odds of landing him aren't very high right now.12/15 1:09pmKeep an eye on Oklahoma State RB Dom Richardson. There is some momentum here for Baylor right now.12/18 8:58amBrian and I have a prediction in for Jerrell Boykins to Baylor.12/18 10:57amHere is what I know on Austin Novosad currently (since I know everyone wants an update on him)-He loved his visit with Dave Aranda and it went in his words "really well".- At this time it feels like the Baylor side has a lot of confidence that he will sign.-There are some TCU people who have "confidence" in them flipping Austin but the TCU contact I respect the most told me this, "All I know is he's still very much talking to them. Not sure how confident TCU feels.". -This leads me to believe that confidence was there because they thought they were going to get him to visit right before signing.-TCU has been trying to get him to visit but to my knowledge that trip did not happen this weekend.-All that information leads me to believe he will be signing with Baylor.I will update if I hear more.12/18 11:23pmRecent Baylor 2023 offer Justin Horne has decommitted from Louisiana following his official visit to Texas Tech. I am expecting him to sign with the Red Raiders but if he decides to wait till February then Baylor will have a chance to secure his final OV and land him.12/19 11:20amAs I reported/expected, John Curtis (LA) LB Justin Horne will be signing with Texas Tech after committing today. No surprise here.12/19 8:41pmAt this time I am expecting Myles Jones to reunite with Mike Elko at Duke. Elko was the Aggies DC.12/20 12:09pmThe mystery receiver who I have been alluding to for over a week now is Arkansas transfer Ketron Jackson.12/20 5:15pmArkansas transfer WR and priority target Ketron Jackson has committed to Baylor. Potentially more good news to come.12/21 3:45pmBaylor has offered North Texas tight end transfer Jake Roberts. The 6-foot-5, 250-pound prospect totaled 394 yards and three touchdowns this past season. Since entering the portal yesterday, he has added offers from Cal, Nebraska, and SMU.He has two years of eligibility remaining
