The Opening Notes: OL and DL
The offensive and defensive lines had a really competitive day at the camp on Sunday. There were some standouts and some guys who could have performed a little bit better.-Reedy's Nathan Anderson was terrific once again in the one on one drills. He has elite feet and it allows him to consistently get back into plays even when he is beat on the initial move. He posted a 91.77 score with a 4.20 shuttle and a 5.01 40 time. These are elite numbers to go along with his 6'5 frame. Baylor has made him a priority in the class but he did tell me that A&M would be tough to beat if they offer.https://twitter.com/Jason_Howell/status/1102262294027874304-Cherry Creek (CO) center prospect and Colorado commit Carson Lee showed some great skills on Sunday. He does a great job with his hands and he keeps a really nice knee bend. This allows him to stay on balance and maintain great contact with the defender. Lee measured in a 6'3, 320 pounds.-I am a big fan of Connaly's Trent Pullen. His numbers aren't great and neither is his size but his improvement is fun to watch. Last year I wasn't sure about him but now I am changing my mind completely. He shows up at every camp and puts on a show. He has improved his knee bend, technique, and his strength. This guy wins almost every rep at these camps and it is fun to watch him improve each time out. This is vs. Sawyer Goram-Welch :https://twitter.com/GrayGrundhoefer/status/1102595728558473216-Fort Worth All Saints' 2021 OL Tommy Brockermeyer continues to make his push to the top of the 2021 offensive line class. I personally do not have him at the number one spot but he is definitely in the top 5 in the loaded position. He has solid hands and feet plus he has very good strength for a sophomore. He is well advanced beyond his years and I expect he will be at worst a high four star recruit and maybe even a five star if he commits to Texas. His dad played at UT.-Let's roll through some others quickly. Prestonwood's Javan Bouton won OL MVP which was deserved. He had a really good day but his 6'2 frame is going to be hard to look past unless he is at center. Texas commits Jake Majors and Logan Parr are both solid players but neither one really jumps off the charts when you watch them. They are just another one of the guys and were outperformed by lower ranked prospects. Lake Ridge's Caleb Rogers is one to watch. I liked what I saw from him with his positioning and technique plus he is a legit 6'4-6'5. He needs to add a lot of weight to his frame but I am intrigued by his potential. Liberty Christian's Andy Buttrell is a mixed bag. He has great size and strength plus he looks outstanding some reps. But other reps he looks completely off balance and slow. Braswell's 2021 OL Eric Cade is one of the most sought after prospects but he was extremely disappointing in one on one drills. He could not slide his feet well at all and was beaten numerous times.-The defensive line tried to hold their own against a very good group of offensive lineman. Highland Park's Prince Dorbah stole the show like he does at all of the camps. He is so quick off the edge and exposes offensive lineman more times than not. He and Nathan Anderson had a nice battle. Dorbah is not the biggest guys but he just understands the technique of the position and then has the quickness to execute.-Desoto's 2021 defensive end Shemar Turner had a really good day as well. He took home DL MVP and he performed well enough to get that. Baylor offered him first and are still his biggest offer. I am kind of surprised more schools haven't jumped on him yet but if I am Baylor I would definitely keep on the full court press for this kid.-Hazen (AR) Blayne Toll is a confusing one. He looks like the exact prototype for a defensive end. At 6'6, 244 pounds he is a guy that you look at and say he is going to be unstoppable at the next level. But then he does one on one and he has zero moves outside of the bull rush. Nathan Anderson handled him all three times they went. I am curious to see how much he improves this year.-Longview's Sawyer Goram-Welch is a guy I was on the lookout for because I like his film and size. I finally got to see him in person and he is a very good player. He has nice explosiveness and a variety of moves to go along with a 6'4, 278-pound frame. He ran a 5.1 and had a 27-inch vertical.-Antonian's Devin Grant needs to get in on more one on one repetitions. He looked outstanding against E'Marion Harris but only went on the line twice. Grant won all four reps but he needs to be more assertive. He measured 6'3, 235 pounds but ran a 4.9 in the 40. If he camps and gets that 40 time down I think Baylor could offer. This is against Harris:https://twitter.com/GrayGrundhoefer/status/1102270711790473216-A couple more that stood out. MacArthur's Blake Burris is a nightmare for guards to stop at these camps, he looks very impressive. Weatherford (OK) 2021 defensive end Ethan Downs is an absolute stud. Baylor was his first offer but he has been getting a lot of attention lately and I am not sure if Baylor is still in the mix. Desoto's 2021 defensive end Byron Murphy II had a great day and this was the first time I have seen him in person. He has really good explosiveness at the point of attack and uses his hands well to get off blocks. Earle (AR) J.J. Coopwood showed off some nice athleticism for a guy his size and is one to watch out of Gerry Bohannon's high school.-Top 5 performers video:https://twitter.com/Final5Linemen/status/1103047815133982721
Under Armor Dallas Notes and Thoughts- Offense
It was a great day at the UA Camp on Sunday in Dallas. I will have a bunch more interviews up this week. But first let's do some key notes from the day for the offense. The offensive line group was insanely talented so I will start there.-Reedy 2020 OL Nathan Anderson is a stud. I came away so impressed with him. I like his film and at the NLA event he was solid but not as good as he was at the camp. He played right tackle the majority of the time and went up against some of the best prospects and shut them down. He weighed in at 265 and was measured at 6'5. His quickness makes him special, great feet. He won big man MVP because of his dominant performance.https://twitter.com/GrayGrundhoefer/status/1099762941585485825-Baylor commit out of Carthage Ty'Kieast Crawford was at the camp as well. He played right tackle the whole time but it was not very pretty. I saw six reps and he five out of six but I did hear he ended up rebounding later on in the day. He looks like a guard to me based on his feet. But he has an awesome frame, long arms, and does not have much bad weight. He will be a four star at some point but I hope he camps at guard at the next one he goes to.https://twitter.com/GrayGrundhoefer/status/1099869236565020673-Connaly 2020 OL Trent Pullen had his best showing at a camp that I have been to. He looked great at guard and did a great job using his hands. I see the improvement and it is very impressive. I still need to see if his athleticism has improved some. He was the other Big Man MVP and it was well-deserved.-I am going to run through some of the other ones that stood out and there were quite a few. 2021 Savion Byrd out of Duncanville was the best offensive lineman there period. He was flat out dominant. Great feet, hand placement and technique is solid, plus he is strong. He is probably right around 6'6, 260 pounds. He has all good weight and a ton of room to grow into that frame. This guy just made the loaded 2021 OL class even better. All Saints 2021 Tommy Brockermeyer had another very good day. I saw him at NLA and he looked dominant then again today he looked good. Trinity Christian 2021 OL Elijah Bowser is a name to watch. At 6'5, 320 pounds he is already a load to deal with. He played tackle the whole day and might have some of the strongest hands I have seen this year. He went against Shemar Turner and hit him with his right hand in the shoulder and completely stunned Turner who completely stopped when he felt that hand. Bowser still has some work but my goodness is he strong. 2020 Cedar Hill OL and LSU commit Courtland Ford looked good. He played left tackle but I still think he needs to move to guard. His feet are just ok but once he gets his hands on you it is pretty much over. He went against a 5'9, 175-pound kid and got blown by on the first rep. Then on the second rep he pancaked him badly. 2021 Copperas Cove OL McKenzie Agnello had a solid day at guard and was able to win some battles against a very talented defensive Eline group.-Quarterback had a two guys that I really like. Longview 2020 QB Haynes King and Weatherford 2020 QB Ken Seals . King had some really good moments and has a really nice release. He was inaccurate at times in the one on one's but also threw some absolute dimes to receivers. He measure 6'2, 184 at the camp and ran in the 4.5s for his 40 time. It is very apparent that he is a top name to watch in the state for this class. He also got invited to the UA All American game. Seals throws such a good ball and dominates at camps. His inability to really move hurts him on the recruiting trail but he can do mostly everything else.-Other recruits that played well at QB: 2021 Liberty Christian Daniel Greek, 2021 Trinity Christian Shedeur Sanders , 2021 Eastland Behren Morton.-2020 West Mesquite RB Ty Jordan was electric. This guy is a flat out gamer and his film shows that but it is much more fun to see it in person. He is so fast and quick with his cuts which makes him a nightmare for linebackers at a camp like this. He is very short which is a concern for me but he is a flat out playmaker.https://twitter.com/GrayGrundhoefer/status/1099760361127981056-2020 RB Jaden Hullaby showed why Baylor loves him. The Bishop Dunne product looks so similar to John Lovett. I could see this guy making the move to defense at the college level too. He is fast, quick, and coordinated. I loved the way he caught the ball at the camp.-Some others that stood out: 2020 Lancaster Tre Bradford , 2020 Poteet Seth McGowan , 2020 Edison (OK) Sevion Morrison , and 2020 Jase McClellan , and 2020 Sachse Myles Nash .-No Demond Demas at this camp but still some very good ones. I am going to get the quick little slot receivers that were open all day long out of the way first. 2020 Cedar Hill Quin Bright , 2021 Denton Ryan Billy Bowman Jr , 2021 Aledo JoJo Earle , and 2021 Lancaster Majik Rector were hilarious a usual to watch. Open all day long and making DB's look silly for a lot of the afternoon.-2021 Allen WR's Blaine Green and Bryson Green were great today. They have been to Baylor a lot and really like the campus and coaches. These are two guys the staff would love to get. They had a very good day and I saw a great combination of size, strength, and route running with the two of them. Cool kids to talk to as well.-2020 Booker T. Washington WR Javian Hester was terrific today. He showed very good route running and a solid 6'3 frame. I loved the way he attacks the ball in the air and it is no wonder why he has so many offers. 2020 Colony WR Keith Miller showed better speed than I thought he would and he has a legit 6'4, 200+ frame. Another big receiver that showed some flashes was 2020 Marshall WR Savion Williams. He high pointed the ball well today and catches with his hands which is a plus. He did drop some passes but overall a good day. -2020 Frisco Lone Star WR Marvin Mims earned an invitation to the UA All American game and it is no surprise after how well he performed at camp. He is very strong and quick but he also has the ability to beat people deep down field. He caught the ball very well with his hands and looked to be turning into a solid route runner as well.https://twitter.com/SuperK_TFB/status/1100071496783986688I will post defense notes tomorrow.
