WACO, Texas — The No. 1-seed Baylor Lady Bears stomped out No. 16-seed Texas Southern 119-30 on Saturday in the Ferrell Center in the most lopsided contest to date in the women’s NCAA tournament.

The appearance in the tournament was Texas Southern’s first in their history, and Baylor (31-3) set the record for the most points ever scored in a NCAA tournament matchup. The 89-point margin also set the national record for biggest margin of victory.

Notable performances by the Lady Bears included sophomores Beatrice Mompremier and Kalani Brown, who had 22 and 21 total points respectively.

All 12 of Baylor’s players scored during the game, and although the Tigers had trouble getting on the board, freshman guard Joyce Kennerson scored 19 of their 30 points.

Mompremier also boasted the team’s most rebounds during the game (11), and junior starting guard Kristy Wallace had six total assists. Redshirt senior guard Alexis Jones returned after missing the Lady Bears’ last four games due to a bone bruise.

Baylor is set to take on No. 9-seed California (20-13) in the second-round of the tournament on Monday in at the Ferrell Center in Waco at 8 p.m. CT. The game will be aired live on ESPN2.

This matchup will be the second meeting of the teams in the tournament. Baylor was victorious in the first meeting between the two teams in 2014, defeating Cal 75-56.

The Lady Bears are 11-3 in second-round games of the NCAA tournament.
