No. 13 Baylor (8-2) suffocates Oklahoma (9-1) with a 27-14 jewel on the Brazos

WACO, Texas -- No. 13 Baylor (8-2) bullies No. 8 Oklahoma (9-1) with a 24-14 win at McLane Stadium and in front of the nation — and the fans stormed every inch of John Eddie Williams Field.

Four. Baylor has only beaten Oklahoma four times in 32 tries on the gridiron. And today was one of those four. Wholly fitting that the Sooners led the series 28-3 coming in. Poetic justice.

Gerry Bohanon cemented his name in Baylor lore today with the right plays at the right time and had 106 yards rushing and two scores. Abram Smith demanded the nation’s attention with a crucial 148 on the ground. And yet it’s the defense that made this upset happen.

Remember that one time Chad Morris’ kid had some yards or something against Baylor? Yeah, that trend died quick. A week after a defensive debacle, the Bears forced the No. 8 team in the nation to bench a Heisman hopeful quarterback. But no amount of quarterbacks in the world could’ve stopped Baylor.

Terrel Bernard had nine tackles, two sacks — of Baylor’s five — and two tackles for loss. It was a show.

Defense surely defined the first half, too. Bohanon was 5-12 with a pick and a touchdown. Caleb Williams was 6-12 with a pick. The opportunities to score were there, but nobody really wanted to. Tyquan Thornton had four catches, 41 yards and a score, but that was a lone bright spot.

Between both teams missing a combined three field goals and Baylor refusing to put points on the board within the five-yard line, we were lucky to have a 7-7 score at the break.

As for the second half, Baylor’s offense did what it had to do. Bohanon was solid on the ground. Smith was solid on the ground. Ebner was solid on the ground. And the defense was even more impeccable than the first half.

Oklahoma put up just 260 yards. Oklahoma put up just 78 on the ground. Oklahoma had the ball just 24:41 of game clock.

Baylor put up 415 yards. Baylor put up 298 on the ground. Baylor had the ball 35:19 of game clock.

And Baylor won. Decisively. 27-14. Maybe we can hang out in Arlington after all?

Their last year in the conference and they get beat. I'm thinking that's what he meant, tho not exactly a good way to state it.

It's because in the first OU-Baylor game in 2019, we were leading 28-3 at halftime before imploding.
