Baylor ranked No. 9 in final regular season College Football Playoff Top 25

In the final version of the College Football Playoff Top 25, the Baylor Bears (10-2) checked in at No. 9 following its victory over Texas Tech (6-6) in Waco on Saturday, dropping a single spot from last weeks No. 8 ranking.

The Bears resume still remains one of the strong in the country with wins over No. 12 BYU and No. 14 Oklahoma as well as wins over bowl teams Kansas State (7-5) Iowa State (7-5), West Virginia (6-6) and Texas Tech (6-6). 

One of Baylor’s two losses came to rival TCU and could be big hurdle on reaching the College Football Playoffs if the Bears were to win the title game this weekend. The Horned Frogs (5-7) were able to secure a 30-28 victory over Baylor after quarterback Gerry Bohanon threw an interception in the closing seconds of the game on the edge of field goal range. The loss wasn’t felt much in the rankings following the loss, but will be a point of discussion in the final weekend.

Baylor remained behind fellow Big 12 team and No. 5 Oklahoma State in the updated rankings. The Bears will get an opportunity to avenge its first regular season loss against the Pokes in the Big 12 Championship game on Saturday inside AT&T Stadium at 11 a.m. CT.

On Oct. 2 in Stillwater, OSU finished off aylor with a touchdown on a fourth down play from Baylor’s four-yard line in the fourth of the contest, extending its three-point lead to 24-14 with 2:04 remaining. 

After trailing 14-0 at half, Baylor cut OSU’s lead to 17-14 early in the fourth and were looking for a stop as the Cowboys gained possession. On a 3rd and 12, quarterback Spencer Sanders scrambled for 10 yards to set up the score on fourth down that would put the game out of reach. 

Baylor forced OSU into three turnovers, twice deep in opponent terriority, but couldn’t come up with points an any of the three occasions. Baylor controlled the majority of the second half and outscore the Cowboys 14-10, but the two touchdown hole was too much to overcome.

We really should have known they would do that lol. Can't let Baylor be within striking distance if they win the big 12 championship.

I swear, these bums better not put in a ND with in interim head-coach over a potential Big12 Champion Baylor that played a much tougher schedule with multiple ranked wins and ND doesn't have a single ranked win now that Wisconsin lost.

The loss to lowly TCU on the resume did it. We STILL wouldn't make Playoff if we were only one loss. It's the College Football Invitational for a reason. Trouble filling Big12 Ticket Allotment for Championship Game doesn't help either. Last weekend stadiums were crammed in snow, rain, etc yet McLain had empty seats due to wet cold conditions. Baptist take easy way out.

It's mighty hard to jump from 9 to 4, but being able to avenge one of your two losses, and adding another top 10 win, might be enough to get them in. If the committee weren't money obsessed that's how it would play out (all of this assuming that bama loses to Georgia)

Huh? We would be within striking distance and a 1 loss Big 12 Champion would have a chance to get in this year as the ranking of Okie State shows.

If there's any of the school allotment left for non-students, it's $85 in the 400 level.

Baylor only gets half of their half of the stadium allotted, maybe less.

The rest of us will pay less to sit in the 400 level, or will grab better seats off the third party sites.

You don't sound very knowledgeable. For one learn the name of our stadium. In addition, the games you seem so impressed by fan attendance were huge rivalry games and much better matchups.

Ohhhhhh MY... I misspelled, tha' Horror!! Sensitive much? Can't argue with huge rivalry, matchup, etc. Doubtful, short of maybe two/three other major rivalries, could equal that, rightfully so. I'm just stating a fact that no one can deny. I'm just making a statement that pretty sure figures into the bigger picture. Some have threads on here about National viewing audiences and such. It's not like it's a topic that hasn't come across before. You know, just a few short weeks ago no one wanted the Eight, so we moved forward in unity and we need to build on that... TV contracts... remember?

TCU loss HURT, plain and simple. BU didn't make the playoff back in the Briles era along with TCU. THAT was a travesty. Future looks presently promising and hopefully attendance will be as good and rabid as it was back in the Briles years. No one wants BU to be more successful than me. Abhorrent isn't strong enough for my feelings for Buckeyes, MI, wHorns or aggy... nuthin', nada!

To win the Big 12 is plenty. Then a Bowl game. This obsession with something Baylor won't be subjectively chosen for(eye test) is a waste of energy.
