Baylor Women's Tennis Opens Big 12 Play against TCU, Texas Tech

Bears host Horned Frogs for ‘Go Gold’ match on Thursday before Red Raiders come to town on Sunday.

WACO, Texas – No. 33 Baylor women’s tennis (9-4) begins Big 12 play this week with home matches against TCU (8-5) and No. 34 Texas Tech (7-4) at Hurd Tennis Center. The Bears will face TCU at noon on Thursday for their “Go Gold” match before hosting Texas Tech at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Under head coach Joey Scrivano, Baylor has opened Big 12 play with a 2-0 record 11 times, including each of the last two seasons. The Bears are 20-17 all-time against TCU and 26-16 all-time against Texas Tech.

BU is currently riding a three match win streak and has won seven of its last eight.

Led by the No. 5 doubles team in the country of seniors Alicia Herrero Linana and Mel Krywoj, the Bears have secured the doubles point in 11 of 13 matches this spring.

In singles, No. 122 Alina Shcherbinina leads the team with 11 wins on the season. Paula Baranano is also in double digits with 10 wins.

For Thursday’s match, fans are encouraged to wear gold. Additionally, gold t-shirts will be given out while supplies last.

Sunday will feature Cub Tennis, presented by Raisin’ Canes, at noon on the Riverside courts at Hurd Tennis Center.
