WACO, Texas – Baylor baseball (9-8) was unable to pick up the win in the Big 12 opener against TCU (13-4).

The conference opener was a rather slow game and there was not much back and forth between the two rivals.

Baylor was able to get out of a couple of jams in the first and second innings with some timely double plays turned by Tre Richardson and Jack Pineda.

The Bears could not keep TCU off the board for forever though, with Tommy Sacco hitting a solo home run off of Tyler Thomas in the fifth inning to score the first run of the game.

Only three Baylor players reached base tonight. Tre Richardson and Harrison Caley both picked up hits and Jared McKenzie was hit by a pitch. Other than that, the Bears were completely shut out in this game.

Riley Cornelio pitched a great game for TCU. He went eight innings and gave up just 2 H, 1 BB, and 7 Ks.

Final: TCU 3 - Baylor 0

W: Riley Cornelio (2-1) L: Tyler Thomas (3-2) S: River Ridings (5)

On the difference in tonight’s ballgame…

“I thought our guys had some pretty good at-bats, for the most part. [TCU] was able to get the hit. Sacco comes up and hits a home run, and that was the difference in the game, just plain and simple. Then they were able to get two doubles, we get a wild pitch and we’re not able to keep it in front of us. Those are the differences. I thought we swung the bat pretty good at the beginning, then in the middle it was still pretty good. Towards the end, I thought we were taking some really good at-bats, we just couldn’t get the hits.”
