Baylor Baseball Blown Out By Texas State, 11-4
San Marcos, Texas – Baylor baseball (16-16, 2-7) was blown out 11-4 by No. 19 Texas State (25-9) Tuesday night at Bobcat Ballpark.
The Bears have officially followed up their five-game winning streak with a five-game losing streak.
Tuesday night started on a good note, thanks to a Kyle Nevin infield single with the bases loaded. With the bases still loaded, Chase Wehsener grounded into a double play. Despite the double play, Tre Richardson was able to score and add to the lead. It was 2-0 Baylor after the top of the first.
Texas State returned the favor by scoring on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first. Then in the second inning, Henry Cone walked the leadoff batter. The Bobcats made him pay by launching a two-run homer to left-center for a 3-2 lead. Texas State would not look back.
The Bears had chances to tie the game or close in on the lead, but they repeatedly squandered any hopes by stranding men on base. They left ten men on base over the course of the game.
The fourth inning perfectly summed up the 2022 season. With Max Miller on the mound, he walked the first and second batters he faced. With runners on first and second and no outs, Miller hit another Bobcat to load the bases. Like good teams typically do, Texas State capitalized by hitting a single and two doubles to score five more runs in the inning. It was 10-3 after the fifth.
Texas State and Baylor both added another run late to make the final score 11-4. Tonight’s game was a disappointment, to say the least.
It was a great opportunity to bounce back and pick up a good win before heading back into Big 12 play. But the hopes of regaining some momentum were quickly dismissed after the blowout loss.
This team is heading in the opposite direction of where they need to be at this point in the season. Making a regional is looking less and less likely.
Final: Texas State 11 - Baylor 4
W: Otto Wofford (2-1) L: Henry Cone (0-1)
