71 Days till Kickoff: Baylor’s #71 MJ Ruhman
As always, keep track of both the stats and roster countdowns in the Offseason Hub!
MJ Ruhman is a walk-on offensive lineman from The Woodlands, Texas. The redshirt freshman will have three years of eligibility remaining past this season. He is a pre-engineering major and made the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll in the fall of 2021.
Our own Brian Ethridge was pleasantly surprised by Ruhman’s performance in the 2022 Spring Game and thinks he has diamond in the rough potential. “When I rewatched the game for the third time, Ruhman showed potential at offensive tackle. The Woodlands redshirt freshman arrived on campus at about 6-foot-5 and 270 pounds and has gained strength and weight over the past year. He is definitely not done adding pounds to either his frame or his weightlifting numbers, which is good to see. He also needs to develop his footwork and leverage as well.”
At the Woodlands High School, he helped his team to back-to-back state playoff appearances in 2019-20 and was a finalist for the Houston Touchdown Club Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. Ruhman was first-team All-District as a senior and first-team Academic All-District. As a senior, he was named the team’s offensive lineman of the week. He also ran track and played baseball.
Ruhman comes from an athletic lineage. His father, Chris, was an offensive lineman at Texas A&M and played five seasons in the NFL. His mother, Sondra, cheered for Notre Dame.
