Baylor senior offensive lineman Tanner Thrift has retired from football, SicEm365 has learned. Thrift, who was listed as Baylor's starting center following spring practice, suffered a knee injury prior to the spring game and was unable to participate.
A senior out of Hutto (TX) High School, Thrift played in 31 career games for the Bears and made three starts in three seasons for the Bears. The 6-foot-5, 320-pound lineman made the move from guard to center for new head coach Matt Rhule during spring practice.
Already an extraordinarily thin position for the Bears, Thrift was one of six offensive linemen listed on Baylor's post-spring depth chart. Baylor will heavily rely on a group of six incoming freshmen to fill a massive gap.
Baylor is also in the mix for University of Miami offensive lineman Sunny Ogdogwu who was recently confirmed as a graduate transfer. Odogwu started five games for Miami prior to a knee injury that caused him to miss the remainder of his junior season in 2016.
Baylor began summer classes on Monday.
