WACO, Texas – Baylor men’s tennis heads into the final week of fall play, sending Finn Bass and Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi to the ITA Fall National Championships in San Diego, Calif., and four other Bears to Dallas.

Bass returns to the fall finale in his second-straight year qualifying for the tournament. The fifth-year senior grabbed an automatic spot in singles after his ITA Texas Regional title was secured in Waco with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Texas A&M’s Pierce Rollins.

After his preseason No. 100 ranking, Bass took it to the courts and objected, posting a 10-2 fall record.

The duo of Grassi Mazzuchi and Bass open the tournament with a 5-8 seed after going to the consolation finals of the ITA All-American Championships and the semifinals of the Texas Regional, where they lost to the eventual champions, Alan Magadan and Sebastian Rodriguez from UTSA. The duo recorded a 6-3 record in doubles action so far this fall.

Action from San Diego is scheduled to begin with Bass’ first round of singles against Takeshi Taco (Crowley College) at 11 a.m. CT Wednesday morning, followed by the first round of doubles at 6 p.m. CT against Big 12 foes, Nathan Han and Jordan Hasson from Oklahoma.

Another contingent of Bears will head up I-35 East to SMU for the Ralston/Neufeld Coaches Challenge. Marko Miladinović, Ethan Muza, Justin Braverman and Christopher Frantzen will go up against student-athletes from Boise State, Harvard, Tulsa, Rice, Wichita State and SMU.

SMU’s tournament is set to begin on Friday, Nov. 4, with two rounds of doubles and one round of singles.
