'6 Pack of Bear': Improved Jackson Gleeson a scary idea

Exactly two months ago to the day, Mansfield High School wide receiver Jackson Gleeson ended his recruiting process by committing to Baylor and added himself into one of the Bears' best recruiting weekend under head coach Matt Rhule.

Gleeson was Baylor's third pledge of a four-commitment April 30 and, then, the eighth pledge of the 2018 class. The Bears now have 15 commitments and, like Gleeson, are excited about what the future holds.

As a junior, Gleeson caught 18 passes for 487 yards and six touchdowns in Mansfield's run-heavy offense. His 4.36-second speed in the 40-yard dash makes him an extremely attractive option in Baylor's offense, but it's the off-season work he's put in that may allow him to get on the field a lot sooner than expected. Much of his off-season has included the training and tutelage of Margin Hooks, a former NFL receiver who built a polished career at BYU.

Gleeson, now 6-foot-2 and 170 pounds, spoke to SicEm365 about life after his commitment and the future expectations of the Baylor program.

IT'S BEEN A FEW WEEKS SINCE YOU'VE COMMITTED. IN THAT TIME, WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN UP TO?
"Not much. I'm still happy with everything. I'm still talking with the coaches all of the time. I'm still in love with [Baylor]. The last time I went there, it was in mid-June, and I got to see everything I didn't get to see. It was the middle of the week, so no one was up there except for the coaches. I'm still in love with everything and ready to go."

YOU'VE BEEN WORKING OUT A LOT WITH MARGIN HOOKS. WHAT HAS THAT BEEN LIKE IN REGARDS TO HELP YOU AS A RECEIVER?
"He's helped me out a lot with my footwork and the main routes I'm doing at my school. I can see that I've gotten a lot better. It's been a lot of work, less chop ... he's taught me a lot. He's taught me that there's a different way to do things. If a DB is playing me this type of way, I'm going to do this or do that."

MARGIN SPEAKS HIGHLY OF YOU, AS WELL. HOW HAPPY ARE YOU TO WORK WITH HIM AT THIS STAGE OF YOUR CAREER?
"Most of his guys go D-1, if you want to look at his trainer's resume. He trains great receivers. He turns them into something else in such a short time."

LET'S TALK ABOUT BAYLOR'S CLASS. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS OF THE GROWTH?
"The class is shaping up pretty well. I think we do have the fastest class in the country, which is always a good thing. We have a lot of good players and a lot of playmakers. I'm really happy and ready to use the facilities and put in some work."

JULY IS COMING. FOR SOME, IT'S A TIME TO REST. FOR OTHERS, IT'S A TIME TO TURN THINGS UP. HOW ARE YOU LOOKING AT JULY?

"For me, it's really big. I'm trying to get our whole team together and get everyone ready for the season. I'm still training with Coach Hooks so I can get polished up and have the best season I possibly can."

PUT ON YOUR RECRUITING HAT FOR A MINUTE. WHO ARE SOME GUYS YOU'RE LOOKING TO PULL INTO THE 2018 CLASS?
"Definitely [UCLA commit] Cam Jones. We are teammates at Mansfield, and I took him down [to Baylor] in mid-June. I've been talking him up a lot. I also am still talking to Gerry Bohanon. We need a quarterback, and we like Bohanon a lot. I'm going hard at him. Those two are the main guys I'm working on."
