I was told that about her finger by a player - HA, HA ----- not being mean - tried myself to SHOW how it's done one time and pulled a hammy ....... and then tried to act like nothing happened !!! So I can see the pain and the humor of it. It's really hard to accept that you are not 20 something anymore.
Got to hand it to CNC - she is 100.0% genuine ..... don't ask her a question unless you really want the answer.

Her comments on Dre and Aijah are a must see, read and hear for Kentucky and certainty for any prospective recruit/parents looking for a nurturing, caring and supportive environment to improve their basketball as well as their life skills.

I agree Sarah should be National Player of the Week !!!

Nicki Collen is outstanding in press conferences, and she is a fantastic representative of BU. Special highlights this year:

  • Her honest and thorough explanations of our team before and after games, both our successes and struggles, is refreshing and informative. She's an open book, and it's a riot.
  • Her strong endorsement of the tremendous play of Sarah Andrews this season, and her promotion of her after she was snubbed for the National Watch Lists for the guard play.
  • Her explanation of the Dre Edwards story, which is fair and gracious and respectful, and yet ...... somehow it feels that she's simultaneously and politely challenging Kentucky to do the right thing. When she explains that players have a short window of time to compete, and that coaches and administrators should be all about helping the kids play; it seems so simple.
  • Her patience in allowing Aijha time to heal, and the right to release information on her own schedule. It's wonderful to listen to Coach Nicki explain that Aijha's health and BB future take priority over playing this year.
  • Her explanation of support for Britney Griner was spot on, coming from the current Coach of Griner's college team. She didn't take a position on the ethics or legality of what Griner did, she acknowledged that Baylor and fans have no power to do anything within Russia, but explained that it was still important from a humanitarian perspective to support and pray for her return.

Above all else, Collen's passion for the players and for the game come through when she answers questions. It's great education, and great entertainment, and I'm so proud that she's out front as the face of our program.

Contrast Nicki's comments against Kyra Elzy's comments - night and day - who would you want your daughter to play for ???
