Baylor to hire Oregon State's AJ Steward as next RB Coach
Baylor head football coach Dave Aranda is set to hire Oregon State’s AJ Steward to coach running backs for the Big 12 program, SicEm365 has learned. Steward spent the last two seasons at Oregon State (2021-2022) after stops at Arizona (2020), BYU (2018-2019) and Rice (2014-2017) in the same position.

Steward helped Oregon State finish the 2022 season with a 10-3 record with the running game paving the wave at 196 rushing yards per game, fourth best the Pac-12, including 36 rushing touchdowns which ranked third in the league. Oregon State rushed for 212 yards per game and 33 touchdowns in Steward’s first season in 2021.
Under Steward in 2021, senior B.J. Baylor became first OSU back to lead conference in rushing since Steven Jackson in 2003. Baylor totaled 1,337 and was named All-Pac-12 First Team and honorable mention All-American.
In 2022, true freshman Damien Martinez rushed for 982 and seven touchdowns on 161 carries and was named the Pac-12 Offensive Freshman Of The Year and All-Pac-12 First Team.
Steward spent the 2018 and 2019 seasons at BYU under the leadership of then BYU offensive coordinator and current Baylor offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes. Steward coached alongside current Baylor offensive line coach Eric Mateos at BYU in the 2019 season.
Steward spent a total of six seasons at Rice for 2012-2017 while mentoring running backs Darik Dillard and Jowan Davis, who combined for 4,226 yards and 36 touchdowns in their Owl careers.
Steward played in 37 career games at Kansas from 2007-2011.
