The 1-3-1: Baylor (16-10, 7-7) at TCU (7-18, 1-13)

With just four games remaining in the regular season, Baylor (16-10, 7-7) can’t afford to let their current four-game losing streak continue. The Bears make the short venture to Fort Worth tonight for a midweek tilt against rival TCU (7-18, 1-13) who is currently in last place of the Big 12 standings.

Baylor dominated TCU in the first meeting this season 64-42, but pulling off the sweep won’t be an easy task. Here is the 1-3-1 on the Bears and Horned Frogs.

One Player:

TCU has just two players averaging double figures this season in forward Lucy Ibeh and guard Tomi Taiwo. While both have the potential to make an impact on any given night, Taiwo is the real difference-maker for the Frogs.

Taiwo does a majority of her damage from behind the arc, where she ranks second in the Big 12 in 3-point percentage (.372). She is TCU’s leading scorer on the season, and ranks eighth in the Big 12 in scoring with 14.39 points per game.

During Saturday’s 75-62 win over Kansas State, Taiwo scored 13 points and added a team-high 3 steals defensively. She has now had at least three steals in a game nine times this year to go along with scoring double figures in each of the past five games.

Three Nuggets:

●      Baylor is an astounding 46-5 all-time against TCU and hasn’t lost a game to the Horned Frogs since Feb. 28, 1990.

●      TCU has shot .500 or more from downtown in three of the past five games.

●      TCU ranks second in the Big 12 in steals with 8.62 per game in conference play.

One Concern:

The scoring inconsistencies for Baylor remain a hot topic, but the foul trouble for Caitlin Bickle down the stretch is alarming. During the current four-gaming losing streak, Bickle had four fouls against Oklahoma and fouled out against Oklahoma State, K-State and Iowa State.

Baylor is already working with a limited rotation off the bench, so when Bickle gets herself behind the eight ball with fouls it’s a recipe for disaster for the Bears. The blueprint is out there now for teams to exploit this weakness for Baylor, and I expect TCU to test this theory with a heavy dose of Ibeh and Bella Cravens in the paint.

Watch/Listen:

Tip-off between the Bears and the Horned Frogs is set for 6:30 p.m. and the contest is available for streaming via Big 12 Now on ESPN+. A live radio broadcast is also available for fans on the Varsity Network App or locally on 1660 AM/92.3 FM. Additionally, live in-game updates will be provided via Twitter or live stats.

Must win, really the next 2 are and should be W's. Get to 18-10 headed to Austin and we've locked in an NCAA bid. Go 1-1 or worse and things will go south fast as far as seeding

Why would you put Buggs back in with about a min and a half to go in the half and let her get her third foul? Bickle already has 3.

missed lay ups, 3 point negated by a foul, missed easy buckets , we should be ahead by 12,, this is not bad coaching but bad execution of easy shots. com'on mahn !!!

I agree. TCU is not good. But, the lack of execution tonight is the reason. Not coaching thus far.

Seems like there are lots of bad calls by these officials

Bickle brings a lot to the table for Bayor, but she just doesn't know how to play with fouls. That was a silly reach-in in the paint for someone with 3 fouls.

Tough to shoot well on tired legs and the Bears are definitely fighting fatigue (both physical and mental) at this point in the season.

It's difficult to execute when your team is tired and slumping.

What a lousy excuse that won't stick come tournament time. Playing through fatigue requires discipline and intentionality, which this program has lacked recently.

Gritty, tough close out. Good to get a win.

Buggs has to develop a jumper this off season. They are playing her 5 feet off on any outside possession.

Good clutch shooting by Bella. No so much on Andrews.

So nice to get a W.

A win on the road is great especially for a tired and slumping team. The fact that Baylor is also getting key and consistent production from two freshmen bodes well for the future.

Enough of the fatigue excuse. Come into the year in better shape. That's on the coach and training staff. Crap excuse.

Manage timeouts in first half of fatigue is the excuse.

Enough of the fatigue. Be in shape.

Still nice to get the win. Have to beat the weak teams.

You can carry on all you want about what should and shouldn't happen. Fatigue is a fact of life. Add in a slump and it becomes even more difficult to mentally fight through it.

And it happens to all teams. Just ask Geno Auriemma and his UConn Huskies how their season has gone since he ran his starting five into the ground.

#4 in the Nation and a #1 seed. Is that bad or am I missing something? Would love to run my team into that.

You appear to have missed a lot over the last couple of weeks. After its latest loss UConn is off the number 1 line and is having trouble beating the Big East teams that it's supposed to dominate. The Huskies are looking winded and very vulnerable. That is how fatigue affects teams, except for the ones that live by Olympia's "I don't have time to be tired." credo.
