Baylor Track & Field Men Tab Highest Indoor Finish Since 2011

March 12, 2023

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Baylor track and field ended its indoor season at the Albuquerque Convention Center with the highest NCAA DI Indoor National Championship finish since 2011, with 13 team points for 17th place.

Nathaniel Ezekiel and the men’s 4x400 all earned All-America first-team honors while Matthew Moorer won bronze, set the third-fastest time in the world and broke the Baylor 400-meter program record in his last indoor meet.

Moorer’s new program record in the 400-meter finals on Saturday night came from a PB of 45.08 to win bronze and record the No. 3 mark in the world this indoor season. Ezekiel was just behind, crossing the line in sixth with a 45.73-second mark. Hasani Barr was tripped up after the 200-meter mark and did not finish the race.

The men’s 4x400-meter relay of Dillon Bedell, Ezekiel, Demar Francis and Moorer brought home the 29th All-America honor in program history, finishing fifth with a 3:03.60, the second-fastest mark of the season.

Head coach Michael Ford

On the championships meet…

“I am super proud of the student-athletes we brought to Albuquerque. So happy for Matthew [Moorer] breaking the school record in the 400 and placing third. Nathaniel [Ezekiel] did an awesome job on the 400m as well, placing sixth. I was also pleased with the 4x400-meter relay that finished fifth and with Demar [Francis] and Mariah [Ayers] earning second-team All-American status in the 200 meters. I will remember this team because it’s my first top-20 finish as a head coach and we did a great job this weekend.”

The Bears open the outdoor season at home with the Clyde Hart Classic March 24-25 at the Clyde Hart Track and Field Stadium.
