STILLWATER, Okla. – Baylor baseball (9-15, 2-4) was swept by No. 20 Oklahoma State (20-5, 4-2) and fell in the seventh inning of the series finale via run-rule, 13-2, Sunday afternoon at O’Brate Stadium.

In the loss, BU’s offense picked up only four hits, and freshman infielder Kolby Branch’s on-base streak ended at 23 games.

Oklahoma State started Juaron Watts-Brown on the mound Sunday, the 2023 Big 12 Preseason Pitcher and Newcomer of the Year.

Baylor’s pitching staff surrendered 16 hits on Sunday afternoon.

Watts-Brown was dominant and struck out 13 Bears in six innings pitched and only surrendered two earned runs, both coming in the seventh inning.

In the seventh, sophomore catcher Cort Castle knocked in an RBI single, and Branch reached on an RBI fielder’s choice.

Junior RHP Will Rigney made his second start of the season but struggled to make quick work of a deep and talented Cowboys lineup.

Rigney, on a pitch count entering Sunday, only threw 2.1 innings pitched and allowed two earned runs and five hits on 54 pitches.

Junior LHP Cam Caley entered in relief of Rigney and, after picking up five quick outs, got hit around in the fifth and sixth innings, giving up six earned runs and six hits in three innings pitched.

Veteran reliever Cole Stasio allowed four consecutive base knocks to start the seventh inning and was pulled in favor of freshman lefty Ethan Calder.

Calder surrendered a grand slam to the first batter he faced to give OSU the 13-2 lead, which enforced the run rule of being up by 10 or more after seven innings.

Final (7 Innings): Oklahoma State 13 - Baylor 2

W: Juaron Watts-Brown (3-1) L: Will Rigney (2-1)

POTG: Cortlan Castle 2-3, RBI

WHAT’S NEXT

Baylor baseball (9-15) will return to Waco to face Abilene Christian (17-6) at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Baylor Ballpark. The game will be streamed via Facebook Live.

Yes, we had a very disappointing weekend in Stillwater. Consider the results from the Big 12 this weekend. All four conference series were sweeps for the home team. Tech took 2 from Okie State last weekend in Lubbock but got swept by UT. KState lost the series to us last week but swept OU this weekend. TCU took three from Kansas. It could be a very interesting conference season. I just hope we can make some noise at some point.
