WACO, Texas – No. 21 Baylor Softball blanked the UTSA Roadrunners, 8-0, Tuesday night at Getterman Stadium, taking the victory in five innings.

The Bears, now 24-8 on the season, picked up their fifth run-rule win of the season, scoring eight or more runs for the ninth time this season.

Baylor started off slow, but back-to-back four-spot innings in the third and fourth innings secured the Bears’ win.

THE RUNDOWN

The Bears were retired in order in the first inning and got two runners on in the second but couldn’t capitalize until the third inning.

After a leadoff groundout, McKenzie Wilson singled before another groundout gave the Bears two outs with a runner on. Getting the two-out rally going was Sydney Collazos who walked and Ana Watson who singled down the right-field line to score Wilson and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Emily Hott walked before Presleigh Pilon singled to the right field wall, bringing home both Watson and Collazos.

Josie Bower then laced an RBI single to right field and put the Bears up 4-0.

After allowing the Roadrunners’ first hit of the game in top of the fourth, the Bears gained some more momentum in the bottom half of the inning.

Wilson singled again after a leadoff groundout, and the Bears produced another two-out rally in the fourth. Collazos singled to left-center scoring Wilson, then Watson doubled to put the Bears up, 6-0. Hott was hit by a pitch and Pilon walked to load the bases for Bower, who knocked a two-RBI single.

Kaci West threw a 1-2-3 top of the fifth, including a game-ending strikeout to secure the Bears’ midweek win over the Roadrunners.

Would love to see us move up high enough to host a regional ... likely have to win a series vs. Tx or OU ... That's a tough ask.
