No. 1 A&T Sinks No. 8 Hawaii Pacific

HONOLULU, Hawaii – No. 1 Baylor acrobatics & tumbling defeated No. 8 Hawai’i Pacific on Easter Sunday in the Shark Tank, winning 287.775 to 270.310.

The Bears (8-0) downed the Sharks (3-2) with a point differential of 17.465.


THE RUNDOWN

Starting off the meet, Baylor had a Compulsory score of 38.50 after earning 9s in all heats. A score of 9.30 was garnered in Acro, 9.90 in Pyramid, 9.90 in Toss and a 9.40 in Tumbling. Going into the second event, BU was up 38.50 to HPU’s 37.40 score.

Moving into the optional portion of the meet, Baylor had a score of 9.95 in Heat 1, 9.95 in Heat 2 and 9.85 in Heat 3 of Acro to total 29.25 for the event. The Sharks had scores of 9.45, 9.05 and 9.60, respectively, for a total of 28.10. Going into the Pyramid event, BU was up 67.76 to 65.50 from HPU.

In the Pyramid event, the Bears earned a 9.95 in Heat 1, the inversion heat. In heat two, BU earned a 9.95, the synchronized heat. In heat three, the Bears scored a 9.90. With the event scoring a 29.80, the running total was updated to 97.55 for Baylor. Hawaii Pacific totaled 28.60 for the event and had a score of 94.10 going into halftime, the Bears up 3.45-points.

In the Toss Event, Baylor had scores of 9.70, 9.60 and 9.90, respectively, to total 29.20 for the event. The Sharks scored a 9.25, 9.00 and 9.75, respectively, to total 28.00. Going into the fifth event, Tumbling, the Bears were up 126.75 to HPU’s 122.10.

In the Tumbling Event, Heat 1 (Duo) with junior Kristen McCain and freshman Aliyah “Chibi” Thomas scored a 9.500. In the Trio Heat (Heat 2), Katie Shiffer, Gianna Cameron and Emily Tobin scored a 9.400. The Quad Pass (Heat 3) had Kamryn Kitchens, Aliyah Kaloostian, Ally Joswick and Rakel Jeffries score an 8.40. The Aerial pass from Savanna Cecil earned a 9.850, McCain in the 6 Element pass (Heat 5) had a 9.825 and Kitchens in the Open pass (Heat 6) earned a 9.800. The Bears’ total came to 56.775 for the event, while the Sharks scored a 50.450. Going into the nights final event, BU was up 183.525 to 172.550 from HPU.

In the Team event, Baylor earned a score of 104.25 while Hawaii Pacific earned a 97.76, bringing the meet score to a total of 287.775 to 270.310, BU taking the win.


HIGHLIGHTS
