Barañano Clinches Win for Baylor Women's Tennis over SMU on Senior Night
WACO, Texas – Baylor women’s tennis (15-11) won its fourth-straight match on Monday night with a 4-1 decision over SMU (11-8) at the Hurd Tennis Center.
In doubles, Paula Barañano and Daniella Dimitrov made quick work with a 6-2 victory on court one, defeating #56 Taylor Johnson and Jackie Nylander. Isabella Harvison and Anita Sahdiieva finished off doubles with a 6-3 win at the No. 2 position, giving Baylor the 1-0 advantage.
In singles play, Dimitrov took a 6-2, 6-2 win on court six to give the Bears a 2-0 lead. Liubov Kostenko earned another point for the Bears after a 6-1, 6-4 victory over SMU’s Jackie Nylander at No. 4 singles. To finish off singles play and clinch the match, super senior Barañano earned a 7-6(5), 6-0 victory to win it for Baylor.
The Bears will be back in action on Saturday in Austin for a matchup against Texas before hitting the road for the Big 12 Championships in Lawrence, Kansas.
