Teplanszky, Branch lead Baylor Baseball past Sam Houston, 7-6
HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Baylor baseball (14-23) picked up its first road win of the season with a 7-6 defeat of Sam Houston (22-16) Tuesday evening at Don Sanders Stadium.
Trailing 6-5 in the top of the eighth inning, sophomore 3B Hunter Teplanszky continued his hot streak with a game-tying RBI double into right-center field to score redshirt freshman OF Gavin Brzozowski from second base.
Freshman SS Kolby Branch followed suit with a go-ahead RBI single up the middle to score Teplanszky and lift the Bears to their first road win of the season.
In the victory, Teplanszky went 3-3 with three RBIs and extended his on-base streak to 25 games and his hitting streak to 13 games. In three consecutive contests, Teplanszky has delivered either the game-tying, go-ahead or game-winning hit.
Veteran reliever Cole Stasio shut the door on the win with 2.1 scoreless frames on the mound.
Earlier in the evening, Teplanszky lined an RBI single into center field, and Branch followed by poking a two-strike RBI single into left field to give Baylor a 3-2 lead.
Sam Houston regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth with two runs off junior lefty Cam Caley.
In the sixth, Baylor added two more runs after some defensive miscues from the Bearkats. But with the bases loaded and two outs, junior RF Cole Tremain grounded out to end the inning. Tremain went 0-5 with three strikeouts in Tuesday’s victory.
Sam Houston tied the game in the bottom of the sixth and took the lead in the seventh off an RBI single from the Bearkats shortstop, Myles Jefferson. Jefferson finished the game 4-4 at the plate.
