No. 12 Baylor Women's Golf Selected as No. 2 Seed in Pullman Regional
WACO, Texas – Baylor women's golf earned the No. 2 seed at the NCAA Pullman Regional, announced during the 2023 NCAA Women's Golf Selection Show on Golf Channel Wednesday afternoon. The three-day tournament will be played May 8-10 at Palouse Ridge Golf Club.
“We are very excited for regionals and to get out to Pullman,” head coach Jay Goble said. “This team has proved time again that we can compete with the best teams in the country, wherever we go. Our plan will be to get out there a couple of days early and get acclimated to the grass so we are ready to go.”
The Bears will be appearing in an NCAA Tournament for the tenth time in the last 11 possible seasons during Goble’s tenure. BU was a No. 3 seed in the Stillwater regional in 2022 and ran away with the event, winning by 14 shots. This marks the 20th NCAA Regional berth in program history, all since 2000.
Washington State will host the 54-hole tournament on a par-72, 6,172-yard course at Palouse Ridge Golf Club. For the first time, the top five teams at each of the six regional sites will advance to the 2023 NCAA Championship, as opposed to the top-four teams in six regionals making it last year.
Baylor has advanced through Regionals to the NCAA Championship in five of the last seven tournaments, earning Championship berths in 2015, 2017, 2018, 2021 and 2023, recording top-10 national finishes in ’15, ’17 and ’18. Baylor advanced to match play and finished as national runner-up in 2015 at The Concession; the Bears again advanced to match play and finished tied for fifth place in 2017 at Rich Harvest Farms; and BU fell in a playoff for the final match play berth on its way to a tie for eighth place in the 2018 NCAA Championship at Karsten Creek.
The Pullman Regional features a 12-team field – No. 1 seed Stanford, No. 2 Baylor, No. 3 USC, No. 4 Clemson, No. 5 Kentucky, No. 6 Texas Tech, No. 7 Houston, No. 8 North Carolina, No. 9 UNLV, No. 10 Sacramento State, No. 11 Cal Poly and No. 12 Green Bay.
Baylor has faced seven teams in the Pullman Regional during the 2022-23 season, going a combined 7-5-1 against those opponents – Stanford (1-2), USC (1-0-1), Clemson (1-1), Kentucky (2-0), Texas Tech (1-0), Houston (0-2) and North Carolina (1-0).
Baylor is coming off a second-place finish at the Big 12 Championship, where senior Hannah Karg and freshman Silje Ohma finished tied for sixth and tied for ninth, respectively, garnering all-tournament honors.
