Baylor Baseball Swept by TCU, Drops Series Finale, 10-4
FORT WORTH, Texas – Baylor baseball (16-35, 6-18) dropped the series finale to TCU (30-21, 11-10), 10-4, Sunday afternoon at Lupton Stadium.
The weekend sweep to the Horned Frogs puts the Bears at the bottom of the Big 12 standings with a 6-18 conference record to finish the year.
For the first time in five games, Baylor reached double-digit base knocks (12) but went 3-for-16 with runners in scoring position.
TCU opened the game with six runs in the first inning off Sunday’s starter Cam Caley.
Caley, however, should not have been responsible for a single run because Baylor’s defense gave the Horned Frogs, at the very minimum, three extra outs in the frame that were not recorded as errors.
Fifth-year senior Blake Helton struck out two and allowed two runs in 3.2 innings out of the bullpen.
Sophomore righty Gabe Craig surrendered a solo home run to Elijah Nunez in the fifth to extend the Horned Frogs' lead to 9-1.
Baylor had the bases loaded in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings and came away with only two runs.
In the sixth, redshirt freshman RF Gavin Brzozowski hit a dribbler past the pitcher’s mound for an RBI infield single to cut TCU’s lead to 9-2.
Brzozowski finished the afternoon 3-5 at the plate with an RBI and a triple. It was his second three-hit game of the season.
Junior CF Daniel Altman lined a single into center field in the ninth for his fourth RBI of the season.
Final: TCU 10 - Baylor 4
W: Sam Stoutenborough (2-0) L: Cam Caley (0-6)
POTG: Gavin Brzozowski 3-5, R, RBI, 3B
