IRVING, Texas – The Big 12 announced the league’s scheduling matrix for the upcoming 2023-24 season on Thursday.

Teams will play five Big 12 opponents twice, then play the other eight conference opponents one time, for a total of 18 league contests.

Baylor will partake in home-and-away series with Kansas, Oklahoma State, Texas, West Virginia and Big 12 newcomer Houston. First-time road trips to BYU and Cincinnati highlight the road slate along with Iowa State and Oklahoma. The Bears will host UCF, Kansas State, TCU and Texas Tech.

Opponents were selected based on a combination of geography, historical results and a poll of the coaches to best balance the schedule in terms of travel and competitiveness. A full Big 12 schedule will be released at a later date.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
This may seem obvious and I'm just missing it, but I presume the new conference configuration will eliminate the confusing "Conference Champion" and "Conference Tournament Champion", making the two one?

I'm all for ditching the conference tournament, but I see nothing in this new set up to suggest any intention to do that.

I would prefer to either ditch the championship or make it the tournament that determines the league title. With so many teams, and a strange rotation of schedules, it seems much more likely that the conference title could be a 2 or even 3 way tie.
